Volleyball Splits Opening Matches at Gettysburg's Battlefield Classic

GETTYSBURG, PA  - The Rowan volleyball team opened the season with a split of its two matches at the Battlefield Classic, falling to Elizabethtown, but defeating Messiah. The Profs will continue play in the tournament with matches against Gallaudet and Gettysburg on Saturday.  
 
The Profs (1-1) fell in straight sets to Elizabethtown, 3-0 (25-17, 25-20, 25-19) as newcomers Brianna Newson and Isabel Kirchner led Rowan with eight kills each. Brooke Adams handed out 26 assists and Simone Sparano notched 20 digs.
 
Rowan rebounded in the second match to defeat Messiah, 3-1 (25-22, 25-16, 17-25, 25-19) to notch its first win of the year.
 
Newson had 15 kills in the win with senior Natalie Ogden chipping in with 13 and Sparano picking up 31 digs.
 
The Profs will play Gallaudet at noon on Saturday and Gettysburg at 2 p.m.
