READING, PA - Julia Patrone scored a hat trick to help lead the #11 Rowan field hockey team to a 8-2 win over Alvernia (5-4) in a non-conference matchup on the road. Kristiina Castagnola and Krystyna Hovell added two goals apiece to power the Profs (5-2) as they closed out a four-game road swing.
The Profs scored the first four goals of the game before Alvernia broke the streak with a pair in the second quarter and cut the Rowan lead to 4-2. But Rowan duplicated the effort in the second half with another four goals to earn its third straight win.
Patrone opened the scoring just two minutes into the contest with an unassisted goal, and Hovell followed with one at 6:26 to give the Profs a 2-0 lead in the first quarter. Rowan continued the scoring in the second when Castagnola netted her first at 16:32 and then Hovell scored her second of the game at 21:35.
Alvernia broke the Profs' shutout attempt as Madison Pothoff scored consecutive goals, at 25:13 and 29:40 to cut Rowan's lead to 4-2.
In the third quarter, Patrone scored her second goal of the game to build the lead back up to 5-2. She followed that just five minutes later, at 40:35, with her career-best third goal of the game, and her eighth on the season. Castagnola scored her ninth goal of the year in the fourth quarter and Julia Cavicchio closed out the scoring for Rowan with a goal at 52:36, which was assisted by Hovell.
