GLASSBORO, NJ – Freshman
Julia Patrone scored three goals in her college debut and
Krystyna Hovell had two goals and two assists to help #9 Rowan to a 7-4 win over #15 Ursinus in season-opening field hockey action at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium.
Patrone also contributed an assist on the evening while
Bridget Guinan and
Rachel Stone rounded out the scoring for the Profs, with Guinan adding two assists.
Hovell gave Rowan a 3-2 lead and after Ursinus tied it, Patrone broke a 3-3 tie with a goal in the final two minutes of the first half. She then scored her third just two minutes into the third quarter to give the Profs a 5-3 lead.
Stone netted one from in front of the cage at 40:08 to increase Rowan's edge to 6-3, and then Guinan scored the final Profs' goal in the fourth quarter, after taking a pass from Patrone.
Although Ursinus got on the board first in the game, the Profs countered as Patrone scored the first of her career, and Hovell added another just a minute later. Ursinus netted one to tie the score, 2-2, at the end of the first quarter
Rowan outshot the Bears, 21-7, and Prof goalie
Abby Hainsworth made one save on the evening.
The Profs (1-0) next head to Catholic University on Saturday before returning home to host Johns Hopkins on September 11.
