GLASSBORO, NJ – Springfield broke open a close game with 25 second-half points en route to a 46-24 win over Rowan in non-conference football action today at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium. The loss drops Rowan to 0-2 while Springfield improves to 1-1.
 
Springfield's triple-option offense racked up 495 yards on the ground, without completing a pass in the game, going 0-for-3. Tim Callahan led the Pride, running for 151 yards and three touchdowns.
 
Rowan QB Mike Husni ran for 90 yards and was 15-of-22 passing for 131 yards in the loss. Jajuan Hays ran for 53 yards, and caught one TD pass, while Ifreke Andy had 43 yards and one touchdown. John Maldonado had seven receptions for 58 yards and one touchdown.
 
The teams traded scores in the first half as Maldonado scored on a 2-yard reception after Andy totaled 24 yards in that drive of 70 yards for the Profs' first score. On Rowan's next possession, Andy ran for a 10-yard touchdown to tie the score, 14-14.
 
Springfield regained the lead, 21-14, as Callahan scampered for 12 yards for his second touchdown of the day. Rowan's Jake Hurler connected on a 28-yarder at the end of the first half to pull Rowan within, 21-17.
 
The visitors then scored quickly to start the second half, with Callahan's third touchdown of the game, and then followed with a 27-yard field goal by Christian Hutra, to go up 31-17. Springfield added another touchdown in the third quarter and then one in the fourth on a 54-yard run by Isaiah Cashwell-Doe.
 
Rowan, which accumulated 317 total yards, put one more on the board with 5:24 to play as Husni threw a shovel pass to Hays and he ran for 44 yards to notch his first touchdown of the year.
 
The Profs have a rare week off and will return to action on the road on September 25 at Salve Regina.
