GLASSBORO, NJ - In a battle of Top 10 field hockey teams, #3 Johns Hopkins took the early lead and held on for a 3-2 win over #9 Rowan at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium, handing the Profs their first loss of the season. Freshman
Julia Cavicchio a posted a goal and assist for Rowan.
Trailing 2-0, the Profs (2-1) got on the board when
Kristiina Castagnola scored on a corner at 43:02 with the assist from Cavicchio, for her third goal of the year.
Johns Hopkins (4-0) then made it 3-1 with the eventual gamewinner as Bryn Rolon netted an unassisted goal from close range at 50:09. The Profs added one more as Cavicchio scored on a corner at 54:17 off the pass from
Krystyna Hovell for the first goal of her career. Rowan had a few more chances in the final minute but couldn't capitalize.
The Blue Jays outshot the Profs, 18-11, and Rowan goalkeeper
Aida Ingram made eight saves in the contest.
Rowan will be at home again on Wednesday, September 15, when it hosts Stevens in a 7 p.m. game.
