NJAC Champs! Castagnola's Goal in OT Lifts #6 Field Hockey Over #5 Kean, 1-0

Profs capture second conference title since 2018

GLASSBORO, NJ – Kristiina Castagnola scored just 1:43 into overtime to lift the top-seeded and sixth-ranked Rowan over fifth-ranked Kean, 1-0, to win the NJAC Field Hockey Championship at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium. With the win, Rowan earns the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament, and captures its second conference title in the last three years it has competed.

Castagnola, the NJAC's Midfielder of the Year took a pass and dribbled past a defender, and once inside the circle, blasted the game-winning shot. It was her third gamewinner of the season and her 41st point of the year, which leads the team.

During the scoreless 60 minutes of regulation, Rowan held an 11-5 advantage in shots on goal. Rowan goalkeeper Abby Hainsworth  made five saves to record the team's eighth shutout of the season.

"(Julia) Patrone was taking the free hit on the sideline and I called to her. I made a lane for myself and pulled right and dribbled a little bit. Then I saw it was open and I had to take it. It's amazing," said Castangola.

The win extends Rowan's winning streak to 14 games, upping its record to 15-2, while the Profs handed Kean (19-2) both of its losses this year.
