GLASSBORO, NJ –
Krystyna Hovell recorded a hat trick to lead top-seeded and sixth-ranked Rowan (15-2) to a 3-1 win over fourth-seeded Ramapo in the NJAC Semifinals, held at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium. The Profs will now host second-seeded and fifth-ranked Kean in the NJAC Championship game on Saturday, November 6 at 6 p.m.
Hovell was on the way to her first career three-goal game early on, taking a pass from
Julia Patrone and putting it in at 3:19.
The Profs held the 1-0 lead throughout most of the second quarter until Hovell followed a goal with :03 left in the second quarter, as
Dayna DeVincentz sent a ball into the circle and Hovell tipped it in.
Rowan increased the lead to 3-0 as
Kristiina Castagnola assisted on Hovell's final goal at 34:30, giving Hovell 15 goals this season.
Ramapo got on the board with eight minutes remaining on a goal by Katie Yarussi.
The Profs outshot the Roadrunners, 17-4, and goalkeeper
Abby Hainsworth made two saves to record the win.
"Anytime you're in the playoffs you need your team's best effort and that's what it is at this point. And we need to be at our best. We had lapses tonight but we found a way to put the ball into the back of the cage, and that's a good thing," said head coach
Michelle Andre.
Rowan is making its third straight appearance in the championship game and will be seeking its first NJAC title since 2018.
