Game Recap: Football |

Late Touchdown Gives Kean a 24-17 Win over Football

UNION, NJ – Kean scored with :50 to play and Rowan had a last-second chance to tie the game, but the Cougars held on for a 24-17 win in an NJAC football matchup at Kean Alumni Stadium. It was Rowan's NJAC opener and dropped the Profs to 0-4 (0-1 NJAC) while Kean improved to 2-3 (2-0 NJAC).

Kean drove 93 yards for the winning score, ending in a one-yard run by Dazzy Iannuzzio with :50 on the clock.

Rowan had a last-ditch effort and QB Mike Husni ran an efficient drive, completing passes to John Maldonado and CJ Barrett, who both stopped the clock by going out of bounds, and then a completion to Eddie Jamison. On second-and-10, Husni ran for 16 yards to the Kean 29 and then completed a pass to Barrett for seven yards to the Kean 22-yard line and stopping the clock. On second down, Husni tried one to Maldonado, which was incomplete. On third down, with just seconds on the clock, Husni's Hail Mary attempt to Maldonado as time expired was broken up by the Cougars' Aaron Cottrell as Kean held on.

The teams exchanged leads throughout the game and Rowan held a 14-10 lead with 2:10 to play in the half after Husni ran it in from one yard out. Kean answered with a 43-second sriving in which Miles Toppin caught a 10-yard pass from Justin Lucia to put Kean up 17-14.

The Profs tied it as time expired in the first half when Husni orchestrated a 53-yard drive that ended in a 34-yard field goal from Jake Hurler. The teams remained scoreless from that point, until Kean's winning touchdown.

Husni was 25-of-32 for 237 yards and passed for one touchdown and ran for another, while adding 78 rushing yards. James Fara returned to the lineup after missing two games with an injury and compiled 87 yards on the ground. Maldonado had a career-high 13 receptions for 134 yards and one touchdown.

The Profs return home next weekend to host #13 Salisbury on Saturday, October 16.
