Hovell and Guinan Team Up for Winning Goal as #12 Field Hockey Defeats #3 Kean, 1-0

Profs hand Cougars their first loss of the year.

GLASSBORO, NJ – Krystyna Hovell's second-half goal, assisted by Bridget Guinan, lifted #12 Rowan to a 1-0 win over #3 Kean in an NJAC and Top 25 field hockey matchup today at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium, as the Profs handed the Cougars (13-1; 1-1) their first loss of the year. Rowan extended its winning streak to six straight.

With their second straight win over a Top 25 team this week, Rowan improves to 8-2 and 3-0 in the conference, as the Profs scored a 1-0 overtime win at TCNJ on Wednesday.

The winning goal came on a corner when Bridget Guinan gathered the pass from Hovell and took the shot, with Hovell deflecting it into the left side of the cage at 40:51 for the gamewinner. It is her 11th goal of the season and her third gamewinner.

Rowan controlled the game offensively, holding a 19-6 advantage in shots and an 11-4 edge in corners.

Rowan goalie Abby Hainsworth made a big save late as Jordan Thompson blasted one just inside the circle, and Hainsworth made the stop with 10:25 left in the fourth quarter. The goalie made three saves to record her third consecutive shutout.

"We had a lot of opportunities and executed when we needed to. They made a couple of good stops and we made a couple of good stops at the end. I was pleased that we controlled it as much as we did," said head coach Michelle Andre.

The Profs take a brief break from NJAC play on Wednesday, October 13, when they host Arcadia.
