Kristiina Castagnola scored the game-winning goal with 47 seconds left in overtime, to lift 12th-ranked Rowan to a 1-0 win over #11 TCNJ in NJAC field hockey action today at the Field Hockey/Lacrosse Complex. The Profs have now won five straight to up their season record to 7-2 (2-0 NJAC), with TCNJ dropping to 7-3 (1-1).

With time winding down in the first overtime, the team co-captain gathered a ball on the left side and carried it into the center and blasted a shot from just inside the circle. It was Castagnola's team-leading 11th goal of the year and her second gamewinner of the season.

The Profs dominated the contest throughout, holding a 19-3 advantage in shots, and a 15-2 edge in penalty corners, but couldn't find the back of the net. Castagnola appeared to score late in the fourth quarter, but it was waved off due to a foul.

Abby Hainsworth made two saves on the day to earn her second consecutive shutout.
Castagnola peppered a team-high 10 shots on the day, with
Bridget Guinan and
Julia Cavicchio adding four apiece.
"It was an intense game. We did a nice job in our midfield creating turnovers and opportunities. I was really happy with our play," said Rowan head coach

The previous meeting of Rowan and TCNJ before today came in November 2019, when the squads faced off in the NJAC Championship game, won by TCNJ (3-1).

Rowan faces its second straight Top 25 team on Saturday, October 9, when the Profs host #3 Kean in an NJAC showdown at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium at 1 p.m.
