#6 Field Hockey Clinches NJAC's Top Seed with 2-0 Win over Stockton; Stone Scores the Winning Goal

Profs own a nine-game winning streak that includes six straight shutouts

GLASSBORO, NJ – Rachel Stone scored the first goal, and the eventual gamewinner, as sixth-ranked Rowan clinched the top seed in the NJAC Championship with a 2-0 win over Stockton. The Profs (11-2; 5-0 NJAC) now own a nine-game winning streak, with the last six victories being shutouts.

Rowan has one more conference game remaining, on October 29 at William Paterson before going into the conference tournament (Nov. 3 and 6) as the number-one seed.

After a scoreless first half, the Profs struck late in the third quarter when Kristiina Castagnola took the shot off the corner and Stone deflected it high into the net at 42:05.

Julia Cavicchio and Krystyna Hovell teamed up to add another less than three minutes later when the Profs were awarded a corner with no time left in the quarter. Off the pass in from Hovell, Cavicchio blasted a shot past Stockton keeper Allie Harris for the goal at 45:00 to give Rowan a 2-0 lead.

Rowan goalie Abby Hainsworth made three saves to notch the sixth straight shutout, but one of the key saves of the contest came from defender Melissa Donaldson when Stockton had a 2-on-2 break in the first half.

Rowan dominated in shots, 26-7, while Stockton keeper Harris needed to make 12 saves in the game.

The last time a team scored a goal on Rowan was on September 25, when Cabrini netted one in the Profs' 4-1 win.

The Profs next move on to a Top 25 test on the road when they visit #17 Salisbury on Saturday evening.
