Offense Leads #23 Baseball to 13-7 Win at Cabrini

RADNOR, PA - Mitch Walker hit a three-run home run and Alex Kokos went 3-for-6, with two runs and an RBI, to lead #23 Rowan to a 13-7 win at Cabrini (5-7) in non-league baseball action as the Profs improved their record to 3-0.

The Profs pounded out 15 hits as Walker was 2-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI and Trip McCaffrey also knocked in two runs for Rowan. Ryan Mostrangeli and Nick Schooley also scored two runs apiece. Patrick Sudnikovich (1-0) got the win in relief of starter Jeremy Dyzenhaus, with Dan Corvo earning his second save of the season.

Rowan's bats got going right away as Ryan McIsaac led off the game with a double and after he advanced to third when Schooley reached base on an error, Kokos singled to drive in the Profs' lead runner. Eric DiDomenico then singled to drive in Kokos, giving the Profs a 2-0 lead after a half-inning, but Cabrini got one back in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI double by Mack McKisson.

Rowan added two more in the second as Jason Bobiak was hit by a pitch, advanced on a single by Mostrangeli and eventually scored on a ground out by McIsaac. Mostrangeli scored on a ground out by Schooley as the Profs went up 4-1. Cabrini pulled to within 4-3 as McKisson hit a two-run single.

Walker led off the third inning with a single and McCaffrey reached base after being hit by a pitch. Bauer Fichter doubled to left field to drive in Walker and McCaffrey, and ended up scoring on a ground out by Bobiak to give the Profs a 6-3 lead.

Cabrini loaded the bases in the fifth and Christian Bascunan, who entered in relief of Sudnikovich, limited the Cavaliers to just one run getting a double play to end the inning.

McKisson pulled Cabrini within 6-5 in the sixth as he reached base on a Rowan error, advanced on a balk and a ground out, and then scored on a balk.

Walker then broke open the game in the eighth, connecting on his first round-tripper of the season, scoring Kokos and Mostrangeli. Back-to-back doubles by Michael Manganella and McCaffrey upped Rowan's lead to 10-5.

Cabrini scored two runs in the eighth, but Rowan added three more in the final inning on three hits and RBI walks to Manganella and McCaffrey and an RBI single by Jared Marks.

"It was a great job by our offense today. We did a great job scoring two in each of the first three innings. We were then able to expand later in game with four runs in the 8th. Christian Bascunan did a great job holding Cabrini to a single run in the 5th when he came in the game with bases loaded and nobody out," said head coach Mike Dickson.

The Profs are back in action on Sunday when they play their campus opener against St. Lawrence in a doubleheader beginning at noon.
