Nicole Mallard scored the winning basket for the Rowan University women's basketball team in a 67-65 win against Montclair State University.
Mallard hit the shot at the one-second mark with an assist from forward
Eliana Santana. The victory put the Profs in first place in the conference by themselves with a 13-2 record. Montclair State is tied for second (12-3) with The College of New Jersey. Rowan has a 19-3 overall record while MSU is 17-5 on the season.
Guard
Grace Marshall made two foul shots (0:45) at the end of the third quarter and Rowan trailed 57-54 going into the fourth. Forward Kayla Bush hit a jumper (4:37) to put Montclair State up by six (62-56). Rowan answered with nine straight points to lead 65-62 with 13 seconds left. Santana led the way with six points and Mallard chipped in with three.
Santana put the Profs ahead 63-62 with two free throws (0:54). She had two more (0:13), which made the score 65-62. The Red Hawks called a time out then guard Nickie Carter nailed a three to tie the score with five seconds on the clock before Mallard's basket.
Santana ended the game with 17 points and nine rebounds. Marshall contributed with 16 points and Mallard followed with 14 points and six boards. Guard
Kennedy Brown added 11 points. Center
Ayanna Johnson recorded 23 rebounds.
Carter led Montclair State with a game-high 20 points. Bush recorded a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards. Guard Taylor Brown collected 11 points.
