Sanders Scores 25 as Men's Basketball Rolls to 106-80 Win at Kean

UNION, NJ -  Maliq Sanders scored a career-high 25 points, and led six Rowan players in double figures, as the Profs had their best offensive performance of year in defeating Kean, 106-80, in NJAC men's basketball action at Harwood Arena.
 
Rowan (7-8; 3-5 NJAC) made a season-best 23-of-46 three-point field goals in the win, and finished the game hitting 53.7 percent from the field (36-of-67).
 
Sanders made 7-of-11 from the field and hit a personal best 6-of-11 three-pointers to lead Rowan. Jerry Price, with 18 points and seven assists, was one of three Profs to connect on four three-point field goals in the game, with Ryan O'Leary adding 16 points, also with four threes. Austin Kearney tallied 15 points as he shot 6-of-9 from the field, and Matt Green came off the bench to make four three-pointers for 12 points. Jonathan Hevalow added 10 points in a reserve role.  
 
The Profs set the tone from the start shooting a blistering 58.1 percent from the field (19-for-32) and 56.0 (14-for-25) from three-point range in the first half.
 
With the scored tied at 28-28, Rowan went on a 14-2 run with four three-pointers, contributed by Connor Dickerson, Kearney, O'Leary and Sanders, to take a 42-30 lead with four minutes to go. Kean fought back by scoring six straight, but the Profs answered again from beyond the arc as Sanders hit a pair of threes, and Green added one at :30, to give Rowan a 51-38 advantage at halftime.
 
The Profs scored the first seven of nine points in the second half and maintained the double-digit lead the entire period. Rowan stretched it to a 21-point margin, 73-52, with 12:45 remaining, while the final margin (26) was the Profs' biggest lead of the game.
 
Kean (4-11; 1-7 NJAC) also connected on 53.7 percent from the field in the first half, but made only 3-of-10 from behind the arc. The Cougars were led by Jared Latane and Jailen Jamison with 14 points apiece.
 
The Profs return home on Saturday, January 18, when they host Rutgers-Newark at 3 p.m. in Esby Gym.
