Baseball Falls To Washington & Jefferson, 2-0 In NCAA Regional

SALISBURY, MD – The Rowan University baseball team fell to Washington & Jefferson College, 2-0 on Saturday in game four of the NCAA Salisbury Regional. The regional is at Salisbury University from Friday-Sunday, May 17-19. 
 
The Presidents (34-11) advance to the final which will be held on Sunday, May 19 at 11 a.m. The Profs (31-12) take on Salisbury in an elimination game later today at 3:30 p.m. 
 
Shortstop Spencer Howell (sr. Oakwood, OH/Oakwood) totaled one hit and one run for Washington & Jefferson. Right fielder Shayne Erny (sr. North Ridgeville, OH/Oakwood) and second baseman Mullen Socha (sr. Independence, OH/St. Ignatius) each produced one hit and a run batted in (RBI). Right-hander Nick Drake (so. Canonsburg, PA/Canon-McMillan) was the winning pitcher (4-2), tossing six innings and allowing two hits and striking out four. 
 
Designated hitter Mitch Walker (jr. Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Mem.) led Rowan with two hits, while first baseman Anthony Harrold (sr. Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) registered one hit. Right-hander Danny Serreino (sr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) took the loss (5-4), pitching five innings and giving up three hits and two runs, while fanning five batters. Righty Andrew Cartier (sr. Estell Manor, NJ/Buena Reg.) threw three innings and struck out two. 
 
It was a pitching duel over the first four innings, as both teams combined for one hit. Washington & Jefferson went ahead, 2-0 in the fifth frame. With runners on first and third, Erny hit a RBI single up the middle. Socha drove in catcher Justin Griffin (sr. Lombardo, IL/Glenbard E.) when he singled up the middle. 
 
The Rowan offense struggled for the remainder of the contest as it could only manage two hits for the final four innings.
