Baseball Takes Down Salisbury, 9-6 In NCAA Regional

NCAA Regional Post-Game Interview 

SALISBURY, MD – The Rowan University baseball team bounced back in game five of the NCAA Salisbury Regional and topped Salisbury University, 9-6 on Saturday.
 
The Profs (32-12) advance to the final where they face Washington & Jefferson College (34-11) on Sunday, May 19 at 11 a.m. The Brown and Gold has to defeat the Presidents twice to win the regional. 
 
Designated hitter Mitch Walker (jr. Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Mem.) led Rowan with three hits, a double, three runs and two runs batted in (RBI). First baseman Anthony Harrold (sr. Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) contributed two hits, a home run and two RBIs, while center fielder Matt Woods (sr. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) chipped in two hits and scored twice. Catcher Steven Hewa (sr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) had a double and two RBIs. 
 
Right-hander Andrew DiPiazza (sr. Bayville, NJ/Central Reg.) earned the win (6-1), pitching seven innings and fanning nine batters. Right-hander Dan Corvo (so. River Vale, NJ/Pascack Valley) recorded his first save on the season, tossing 1.2 innings and allowing no hits. 
 
For Salisbury (35-10-1), shortstop Jack Barry (sr. Laurel, MD/Reservoir) produced three RBIs and hit a homer. First baseman Jay Perry (sr. Elkton, MD/St. Mark's) registered a home run and two RBIs. Left-hander Xavier Marmol (fr. Clarksburg, MD/Mount Airy Christian Academy) took the loss, hurling 1.2 frames and giving up four hits and four runs. 
 
The bats started hot in the first inning for Rowan as it jumped out to a 3-0 lead. Woods reached first on a single to the shortstop and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from third baseman Nick Schooley (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee). Walker drove home Woods with single to right field, while Harrold followed with a two-run homer to left field. The Profs kept the offense rolling in the second when shortstop Dillon Mendel (sr. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) scored from third on a wild pitch. 
 
Salisbury cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the second when Perry nailed a two-run home run. The Sea Gulls put the pressure on in the fourth, as they added a run to trail, 4-3. Right fielder Cameron Hyder (fr. Laurel, MD/Reservoir) hit a double to right field and scored catcher Matt Padeway (jr. Fairfax, VA/Chantilly). 
 
The Profs tacked on a run in the fifth to lead, 5-3. Walker got on second with a double to right center. Second baseman Alex Kokos (jr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) knocked in Walker with a single to center field. 
 
Rowan widened its advantage to 9-3 in the seventh. Walker plated Woods with a single to right field. Walker was came home on a Salisbury throwing error, while Hewa hit a two RBI double to center field. 
 
The Sea Gulls battled back in the bottom of the eighth, adding three runs to trail, 9-6. With runners on first and third, Barry blasted a three-run homer to clear the bases.
