Softball Wins 1-0 In 10 Innings Over MIT In NCAA Regional

CAMBRIDGE, MA – The Rowan University softball team won 1-0 in 10 innings over Massachusetts Institute of Technology to advance in the NCAA Cambridge Regional on Saturday.
 
With two outs, pitcher Jesse DeDomenico (jr. East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) reached base on an error and center fielder Kristina Mueller (sr. Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) scored the winning run.  
 
Rowan (32-12) plays MIT again (29-11-1) who advanced from the loser's bracket on Sunday, May 12 at noon.  On Saturday, MIT defeated Eastern Nazarene College, 5-4.  Prior, Eastern Nazarene had a 7-1 win over Husson University.
 
DeDomenico (18-6) only gave up four hits and struck out eight batters.  She also contributed with one hit.  Shortstop Carly Anderson (sr. Nutley, NJ/Nutley), designated player Kelly Duffy (so. Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Mem.), left fielder Morgan Zane (fr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) and first baseman Mackenzie Short (jr. Denton, MD/North Caroline) each produced one hit.
 
For the Engineers (28-11-1), center fielder Julia Chatterjee (fr. Hinsdale, IL/Hinsdale Central), right fielder Sarah Von Ahn (jr. West Linn, OR/West Linn)), designated player Claire Wichman (fr. Omaha, NE/Elkhorn) and left fielder Sierra Rosenzweig (jr. Anchorage, AK/East Anchorage) had one hit apiece.  Righty Ravenne Nasser (sr. Methuen, MA/Phillips Academy Andover) suffered the loss (17-7).
 
Mueller reached base with a walk after a ground out. She went to second on the second out and came home on the error.  Mueller also scored the winning run in the Eastern Nazarene game because of an error.   
 
The winner of the regional advances to the Super Regional on Friday-Saturday, May 17-18.  The eight super regional champions will play for the national title on Thursday-Tuesday, May 23-28 at Suddenlink Field in Tyler, Texas.  The national tournament is double elimination.  
 
Rowan was an at-large selection to the national tournament.  It is the Profs' 27thappearance and ninth straight in the NCAA postseason.
