GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team dominated conference opponent Ramapo College, 8-1 on Wednesday afternoon.
With the win, the Profs are 26-7 overall with a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) mark of 11-3. The Roadrunners have a 20-11 record and they are 10-4 in the conference.
Right-hander
Andrew DiPiazza (sr. Bayville, NJ/Central Reg.) was the winning pitcher (5-0), tossing a complete game. He struck out 13 batters while allowing five hits and one run. First baseman
Mitch Walker (jr. Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Mem.) led the way with three hits, one run and a run batted in (RBI). Designated hitter
Anthony Harrold (sr. Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) contributed two hits, a double and a home run and three RBIs. Second baseman
Alex Kokos (jr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) produced two hits and two RBIs and scored once. Center fielder
Matt Woods (sr. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) crossed home plate three times and added two hits and double.
For Ramapo, left fielder Kyle Buser (jr. Ramsey, NJ/Ramsey) registered two hits and a home run, while center fielder Philip Mahlik (fr. Bernardsville, NJ/Bernards) had two hits. Left-hander Nick Recarte (sr. Hackensack, NJ/Queen of Peace) suffered the loss (1-2), pitching 3.2 innings, giving up 11 hits, seven runs and five earned.
Rowan went ahead 3-0 in the first inning. Woods opened with a double to right field and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Walker got on first when he singled to third. Kokos cleared the bases when he reached third base on a single and throwing error by the Roadrunners. Kokos came home on the following at-bat from a wild pitch.
The Profs added two runs in the third to widen their gap to 5-0. Shortstop
Dillon Mendel (sr. Sparta, NJ/Sparta)led off with a single to right field and moved to second on a Ramapo fielding error. Harrold brought in Mendel with an inside the park home run to left field. The Brown and Gold extended its lead to 7-0 in the fourth on back-to-back bases loaded walks.
Rowan tacked on a run in the bottom of the eighth to have an 8-0 advantage. Woods opened with a walk, then went to third on a stolen base and a wild pitch. Walker drove in Woods with a single through the left side. Ramapo scored its only run on the contest in the ninth inning when Buser hit a homer to right field.
The baseball team hosts Stockton University for a NJAC contest on Thursday, April 25 at 3:30 p.m.
