YORK, PA – The Rowan University baseball team shut out York College (PA), 6-0 on Tuesday afternoon.
The Profs improve to 25-7 overall. Right-hander
Jeremy Dyzenhaus (jr. Morganville, NJ/Marlboro) pitched a complete game in the win, allowing five hits and striking out eight batters. Catcher
Steven Hewa (sr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) led the way with two hits, a home run and three runs batted in (RBI). Center fielder
Matt Woods (sr. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) contributed two homers, while first baseman
Anthony Harrold (sr. Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) posted two hits and scored once. Shortstop
Dillon Mendel (sr. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) and second baseman
Nick Schooley (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) registered one hit apiece.
For the Spartans (24-9), shortstop Austin Denlinger (fr. Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown Area) produced two hits. Left fielder Jimmy Wiegers (so. Furlong, PA/Central Bucks E.) chipped in a double, while first baseman Jack Barry (so. New Fairfield CT/New Fairfield) and third baseman Luke Turner (so. King of Prussia, PA/Conestoga) each recorded one hit. Left-hander Bobby Kuehn (sr. Downingtown, PA/Coatesville) suffered the loss (4-2) on the mound, tossing two innings and giving up five hits and five runs.
The bats started hot for Rowan as it jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Woods opened the contest with a home run to center field. Designated hitter
Mitch Walker (jr. Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Mem.) reached first on a walk then advanced to second on a single from Harrold. The bases were cleared when Hewa homered to right center field.
The Brown and Gold extended its advantage to 5-0 in the second as Woods blasted a home run to right center. It was his 12th on the season. The Profs added another run in the fourth to lead, 6-0. Hewa got on base with a single through the left side and moved to second on a passed ball. Left fielder
Dan Shane (sr. Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) plated Hewa on a sacrifice fly to center field.
The baseball team takes on conference opponent Ramapo College at home on Wednesday, April 24, with first pitch slated at 3:30 p.m.
