Baseball Falls To Ramapo, 12-6 On Senior Day

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team fell to Ramapo College, 12-6 on Saturday afternoon. The game was scheduled to be a doubleheader, but only one contest was played due to field conditions. 
 
The Roadrunners are 19-10 overall with a 10-3 New Jersey Athletic Conference mark. The Profs have a 24-7 record and they are 10-3 in the conference. 
 
Catcher Liam Duffy (sr. Cranford, NJ/Cranford) and first baseman Kellen Hardy (jr. Branchburg, NJ/Somerville) led Ramapo with three hits and two runs apiece. Hardy had a double, one triple, a home run and three runs batted in (RBI). Left fielder Kyle Buser (jr. Ramsey, NJ/Ramsey) contributed two hits, a triple and three RBIs. Right-hander Jeff Millet (jr. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) earned the win (1-0), pitching 3.2 innings and allowing two runs and striking out three. 
 
For Rowan, center fielder Matt Woods (sr. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) produced two hits, a homer and two runs. First baseman Anthony Harrold (sr. Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) registered two hits, a double and three RBIs. Designated hitter Mitch Walker (jr. Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Mem.) chipped in one hit and scored twice. Left-hander Drew Ryback (jr. Mantua, NJ/Clearview Reg.) suffered the loss (4-2), throwing one inning and giving up six hits and five runs and striking out two. 
 
Ramapo went ahead 7-0, scoring four runs in the first inning and three in the second. In the first, second baseman Vincenzo Sita (sr. Bayonne, NJ/St. Peter's Prep) and Buser each had a RBI single and Hardy hit a triple that scored two runs. Third baseman Bryan Franko (so. Wantage, NJ/High Point) led off the second with a solo homer, while Buser had a two RBI triple to center field. The Profs added a run in the fourth to trail, 7-1. Right fielder Eric Schorr (jr. Audubon, NJ/Audubon) knocked in Walker on a sacrifice fly to right field. 
 
The Brown and Gold put the pressure on in the fifth scoring four runs to cut the deficit to 7-5. Third baseman Eric DiDomenico (fr. Blackwood, NJ/Paul IV) reached first on a hit by pitch and advanced to second on a single from second baseman Nick Schooley (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee). DiDomenico went home on a Roadrunners' throwing error. After Walker got on first with a walk to load the bases, Harrold blasted a three RBI double to center field. 
 
Ramapo extended its advantage to 9-5 scoring a run in the sixth and seventh innings. Designated hitter Vincent Timpanelli (jr. Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) had a RBI single to right field in the sixth and Hardy slammed a homer in the seventh.

The Roadrunners tacked on three additional runs in the ninth to lead, 12-5. Franko sent a RBI double down the left field line and right fielder Matt Carovillano (so. Middlesex, NJ/Middlesex) scored on a passed ball. Franko was brought home on a sacrifice fly to center field. In the bottom half, Woods nailed a home run to center field.
 
Rowan travels to York College (PA) on Tuesday, April 23 at 3:30 p.m.
 
Before the game, the baseball team honored its 11 senior players - right-hander Andrew Cartier (sr. Estell Manor, NJ/Buena Reg.), right-hander Andrew DiPiazza (sr. Bayville, NJ/Central Reg.), catcher Steven Hewa (sr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami), left fielder Dan Shane (sr. Perkasie, PA/Pennridge), catcher Zach Leach (sr. Long Valley, NJ/Pope John XXIII), right-hander Victor Lebron (sr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.), right-hander Justin Smith (sr. Atco, NJ/Hammonton), shortstop Dillon Mendel (sr. Sparta, NJ/Sparta), right-hander Danny Serreino (sr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty), Harrold and Woods.
