Softball Splits NJAC Doubleheader At The College Of New Jersey

EWING, NJ – The Rowan University softball team split a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) doubleheader at The College of New Jersey on Tuesday.  The Profs won 5-4 and the Lions had a 4-3 victory.      
 
Right-hander Jesse DeDomenico (jr. East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) was the winning pitcher in the first contest.  She (10-5) threw six innings and had five strikeouts.  Righty Lauren Shannon (jr. Sewell, NJWashington Twp.) pitched the final inning and only gave up one hit for her second save. Pitcher Eliza Sweet (so. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) took the loss (10-3) on the mound.  
 
Shortstop Carly Anderson (sr. Nutley, NJ/Nutley) totaled three hits, a double and two runs for Rowan.  DeDomenico contributed with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs. Designated player Kelly Duffy (so. Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Mem.) had one RBI.  Second baseman Sonia Sharma (so. Mahwah, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) and first baseman Mackenzie Short (jr. Denton, MD/North Caroline) added one hit apiece.  
 
For TCNJ, designated player Kaitlin Kocinski (so. Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) recorded a home run.  Right fielder Katie Winchock (so. Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan) totaled two hits, a double and one run.  Catcher Jess McGuire (sr. Stockton, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.), center fielder Gaby Bennett (sr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) and second baseman Camryn Davies (fr. Chatham, NJ/Chatham) all had one hit and one RBI.
 
In the opener, the Profs scored three runs in the seventh for the win.  DeDomenico knocked in center fielder Kristina Mueller (sr. Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) and Anderson with a double to left center.  Third baseman Cassandra Gerard (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) produced a sac bunt, scoring DeDomenico.    
 
The Lions scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to go ahead 4-2.  Bennett drove in third baseman Lauren Conroy (so. Aberdeen NJ/Matawan Reg.) with a single up the middle.  Kocinski came home on a double by Davies.    
 
TCNJ led 1-0 in the second inning after Kocinksi recorded a solo shot to center field.  Rowan went ahead with two runs in the third.  With one out, Anderson had a double to left center.  DeDomenico reached on an error and Anderson went to third. Anderson came home on a double steal and DeDomenico moved to second then advanced to third on an error.  Duffy's sacrifice fly to left field scored DeDomenico.
 
The Lions tied the score in the fourth inning. McGuire drove in Winchock with a double to left center.  
 
Tori Aguilar (fr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Mem.) was the winning pitcher in the second contest.  She (3-1) went 0.2 innings in relief and gave up just one hit.  Kristen Barrera (jr. Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) was on the mound for the last two innings for her first save.
 
TCNJ has a 24-6 record with an 11-1 NJAC mark. Rowan is 20-10 overall and 8-4 in the conference.  
 
Conroy and McGuire each registered one hit and two RBIs.  McGuire posted a home run.  Left fielder Allie Immerso (so. Brick, NJ/Brick Mem.) was two for three with two runs.  Shortstop Megan Mayernik (jr. Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington) scored one run.
 
Anderson and Duffy each recorded a home run. DeDomenico registered one RBI. Pinch hitter Korie Hauge (fr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland), Short and Gerard had one hit apiece.  Catcher Christina Guarino (so. West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) scored a run.
 
In the first inning, Anderson lead off with a home run to left field.  TCNJ took the lead 2-1 in the third when Conroy doubled in two runs.  Rowan went up 3-2 after one run in the fourth and fifth inning.  Duffy had a homer down the left field line in the fourth.  Guarino touched the plate in the fifth on a sac fly by DeDomenico. The Lions scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth.  McGuire blasted a two-run homer to left field.
 
Next, Rowan hosts Arcadia University in a double header on Thursday, April 18 at 3 p.m.
