Ramapo Softball Takes Two Games, 2-1 And 5-4 Against Rowan

MAHWAH, NJ – The Ramapo College softball team took two games, 2-1 and 5-4 against Rowan University in conference action on Saturday. 
 
In the opener, right-hander Erin Fitzsimmons (sr. Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville) was the winning pitcher.  She (8-7) threw a complete game, only allowed two hits and one run while striking out seven batters.  Righty Lauren Shannon (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) suffered the loss. In five innings, she (8-4) gave up one hit and two runs, one earned.  Shannon had five strikeouts.
 
Left fielder Jesse DeDomenico (jr. East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) gave Rowan a 1-0 lead in the top of the third with a solo homer to left field.  Ramapo went ahead with two runs in the sixth.  Shortstop Krista Verrino (so. Mohegan Lake, NY/Lakeland) drove in center fielder Jackie Howarth (jr. Wall, NJ/Wall) with a double.  Left fielder Kristen Ruggiero (jr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) reached on an error and Verrino scored. 
 
Fitzsimmons was also the winning pitcher in relief in the second contest.  She (9-7) went 2.1 innings, scattered four hits and allowed one run.  DeDomenico (9-5) took the loss.
 
Verrino collected two hits, two RBIs and one run. Howarth chipped in with two hits and one run.  Second baseman Carli Egan (so. Washington Twp., NJ/Washington Twp.) had a double and one run.  
 
The Profs are 19-9 overall and 7-3 in the conference.  The Roadrunners have a 16-10 record and a 7-3 NJAC mark.
 
DeDomenico totaled two hits, three RBIs and a home run. Shortstop Carly Anderson (sr. Nutley, NJ/Nutley) had one hit, one RBI and one run  Second baseman Sonia Sharma (so. Mahwah, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) and right fielder Rebecca Lombardo (so. New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) added one hit and one run apiece.
 
Rowan scored three runs in the top of the fifth and Ramapo came back with four in the bottom half.  Anderson had a RBI single, scoring Sharma.  DeDomenico drove in two runs with a single to left field. Lombardo and Anderson scored. Verrino produced a two RBI single down the right field line.  Verrino and Egan crossed home plate on an error.  The Roadrunners scored one run on an error in the sixth.  DeDomenico recorded her second solo shot on the day in the seventh.  It was her third home run on the season.        
 
Rowan is on the road again at The College of New Jersey on Tuesday, April 16 at 2:30 p.m.
