Softball Splits NJAC Doubleheader With Stockton

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University softball team split a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) doubleheader with Stockton University on Wednesday.  The Ospreys won the first game, 4-1 and the Profs took the second, 6-4 in five innings due to darkness.
 
Victoria Torp (sr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) was Stockton's winning pitcher.  Right-hander Lauren Shannon (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) suffered the loss (8-3).
 
Stockton designated player Angie Dunphy (so. Hainesport, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) contributed with two hits, a double and one RBI.  Shortstop Lilly James (fr. Roseland, NJ/West Essex) had one hit and a RBI.  Second baseman Morgan DiVello (sr. Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) and third baseman Casey Schieda (sr. Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) each scored one run.
 
For Rowan, right fielder Jesse DeDomenico (jr. East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) totaled three hits in three at bats and scored one run. Left fielder Morgan Zane (fr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) produced two hits and one RBI.  Catcher Christina Guarino (so. West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) added two hits.  
 
The Profs scored in the bottom of the third inning. DeDomenico led off with a walk and stole second.  She advanced to third on a sac bunt by third baseman Cassandra Gerard (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley).  Zane drove in DeDomenico with a single up the middle.
 
All four of the Ospreys' runs came in the sixth inning.  Schieda and DiVello crossed the plate on an error.  James had a RBI single and Dunphy doubled in a run.
 
DeDomenico had the win (9-4) for Rowan in the nightcap. She also registered one hit and one run. Samantha Huetter (so. Roseland, NJ/West Essex) took the loss (6-3) in relief.  
 
Zane collected a double, one RBI and one run. Gerard had one hit and one run. Second baseman Sonia Sharma (so. Mahwah, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy), shortstop Carly Anderson (sr. Nutley, NJ/Nutley) and Guarino all scored one run.  Designated player Kelly Duffy (so. Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Mem.) and first baseman Mackenzie Short (jr. Denton, MD/North Caroline) had one hit apiece.

Rowan has a 19-7 record with a 7-1 conference mark.  Stockton is 4-12 overall and 3-5 in the NJAC.
 
First baseman Alexandra Cosenzo (jr. East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) totaled two hits and one RBI for Stockton. Right fielder Ashley Lobell (jr. Cedar Knolls NJ/Whippany Park) and James each tallied one hit and one RBI.  Schieda had one hit and one run.
 
The Profs led 2-0 after the first inning. DeDomenico and Anderson both came home on an error with Guarino at bat.  Stockton went ahead 3-2 in the top of the third.  Cosenzo and Lobell each singled in a run while James walked with the bases loaded.
 
Rowan went ahead 5-3 in the bottom half of the third.  Zane, Guarino and Sharma all scored on errors.  Both teams had one run in the fourth.  DiVello reached on a fielder's choice and left fielder Liani Ortiz (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) scored.  Zane knocked in Gerard with a double down the left field line.        
 
Rowan travels to Ramapo College on Saturday, April 13 for a 1 p.m. conference doubleheader.
