AMBLER, PA – The Rowan University baseball team cruised past Arcadia University, 15-2 on Monday.
With the win, the Profs improve to 12-5 overall, while the Knights have a 14-7 record.
Center fielder
Matt Woods (sr. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) led Rowan with three hits, three runs, two runs batted in (RBI) and a home run. Designated hitter
Anthony Harrold (sr. Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) contributed two hits and three RBIs. First baseman
Mitch Walker (jr. Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Mem.) and shortstop
Dillon Mendel (sr. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) crossed home plate three times and chipped in one hit.
Right-hander
Jean Sapini (so. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) earned the win on the mound. Sapini (3-0) pitched six innings, allowing four hits and two runs. Righty
Zach Listro (jr. Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) tossed two frames and struck out two batters. Right-hander
Ryan Bush (fr. Barnegat, NJ/Barnegat) threw the ninth and gave up one hit.
For Arcadia, first baseman Phil Pierfy (sr. Easton, PA/Wilson Area) and third baseman Zak Thomas (jr. Gilbert, AZ/Gilbert) registered two hits apiece. Right fielder Bryan Gillen (sr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) and second baseman Nick Ponente (sr. Ivyland, PA/Archbishop Wood) each had a hit. Ponente scored one run. Right-hander Righty Carson Denham (fr. Cape May Court House, NJ/Cape May Tech.) suffered the loss (1-2), allowing four hits and six runs, three earned.
Rowan jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the third. Shane got on base with a single down the left field line then was brought in on a home run by Woods. The Profs added another score whenMendel tagged up on third base and crossed home on Harrold's sacrifice fly. The final two runs were plated on back-to-back Arcadia errors. The Knights retaliated in the bottom of the inning, scoring two runs to trail, 6-2.
The Brown and Gold extended its margin to eight (10-2) after scoring three runs in the fourth and one in the sixth. The bats came alive again in the eighth as Rowan drove in five runs to lead, 15-2.
The baseball team travels back to Glassboro for a non-conference contest against New Paltz, with first pitch set at 4 p.m.
