GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team used 18 total hits to carry it to an 11-1 win over Immaculata University on Thursday.
This is the third straight win for the Profs as they improve to 10-4 on the season, while the Mighty Macs have a 10-5 record.
First baseman
Mitch Walker (jr. Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Mem.) led Rowan with four hits, a double and a run batted in (RBI). Center fielder
Matt Woods (sr. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) and designated hitter
Anthony Harrold (sr. Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) contributed three hits and a double apiece. Woods scored three runs and Harrold added two RBIs. Catcher
Jared Marks (so. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) chipped in two hits and a double and crossed home plate twice. Second baseman
Alex Kokos (jr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) produced one hit and three RBIs.
Left-hander
Drew Ryback (jr. Mantua, NJ/Clearview Reg.) pitched four innings and struck out four. Right-hander
Jean Sapini (so. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) earned the win (2-0), tossing two frames.
For Immaculata, shortstop Joey Sacco (fr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) registered two hits and one run, while third baseman Tyler Kmiec (jr. Hamilton, NJ/Notre Dame) recorded a double and a RBI. Righty Timmy Newell suffered the loss (1-2) allowing seven hits and five earned runs.
The Brown and Gold jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first. Kokos and Walker both had RBI singles. Rowan extended its advantage to 5-0 in the second. Left fielder
Dan Shane (sr. Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) scored on a Mighty Macs' throwing error and Marks crossed home plate when Woods blasted a double down the left field line. Kokos drove in the final run of the inning on a fielder's choice.
The Profs led 9-0 heading into the fifth, as they scored four runs in the third and fourth innings. After Immaculata plated a run, Rowan put the contest out of reach in the fifth when Harrold smoked a ball to left center to bring home Woods and Marks to lead, 11-1.
The baseball team opens conference play on Saturday, March 30 with a doubleheader against Kean University starting at 11:30 a.m.
