KISSIMMEE, FL – The Rowan University softball team swept Farmingdale State College, 3-1 and Marian University (WI), 2-0 on Wednesday at The Spring Games.
Righty
Emily August (so. Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) was the winning pitcher in relief against Farmingdale State. She (1-0) went 3.2 innings and only gave up two hits while striking out five batters. Right-hander Jaxie Collard (sr. Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) had the loss (0-3) on the mound.
Catcher
Christina Guarino (so. West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) led the Profs with a double and two RBIs. Third baseman
Cassandra Gerard (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) contributed with two hits in three at bats and one run. Left fielder
Morgan Zane (fr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) produced one RBI and one run. Right fielder
Jesse DeDomenico (jr. East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) scored one run.
For the Rams (0-7), first baseman Jessica Lombardo (jr. Levittown, NY/MacArthur) posted a double and one RBI. Center fielder Priscilla Rivera (fr. Brentwood, NY/Brentwood) had one hit and scored one run.
All of the Profs' runs came in the first inning against Farmingdale State. Zane reached base on a fielder's choice and DeDomenico came home. Guarino knocked in Gerard and Zane with a double to left center field. Farmingdale scored in the top of the fourth. Lombardo hit a double down the left field line, scoring Rivera.
Versus Marian (7-4), DeDomenico pitched a complete game for the shutout. She allowed just two hits and had four strikeouts. Right-hander Paige Rauhut (jr. McHenry, IL/McHenry E.) suffered the loss (2-3).
Rowan scored both runs in the top of the second inning. Anderson drove in Zane and second baseman
Sonia Sharma (so. Mahwah, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) with a single to right field. Zane ended the game with three hits (four at bats) and one run. Anderson had two hits and two RBIs. Center fielder
Kristina Mueller (sr. Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) added two hits and stole two bases.
Rowan (9-5) ends its Florida trip on Friday, March 22 against Grinnell College at 9:45 a.m. and Endicott College at 2 p.m.
