Baseballs Falls To Southern Maine, 9-7

AUBURNDALE, FL – The University of Southern Maine baseball team scored four runs in the ninth inning to win 9-7 over Rowan University on Wednesday.
 
The Huskies have a record of 6-2 and the Profs are 4-3 overall.
 
Shortstop Andrew Olszak (jr. Danvers, MA/Danvers) and second baseman Jake Dexter (sr. Oakland, ME/Messalonskee) led Southern Maine with three hits and one run batted in (RBI) apiece. Center fielder Devin Warren (sr. Smithfield, ME/Messalonskee), right fielder Zach Quintal (sr. Eliot, ME/Marshwood) and third baseman Sam Troiano (so. South Portland, ME/South Portland) each added two hits. Warren had five RBIs.
 
Lefty Henry Curran (sr. South Portland, ME/South Portland) earned the win (2-0) tossing one inning and allowing a hit. 

Third baseman Nick Schooley (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and first baseman Anthony Harrold (sr. Woodbury, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) each produced three hits for Rowan. Harrold had two RBIs. Second baseman Alex Kokos (jr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) contributed with two hits and two runs scored. Right-hander Jeremy Dyzenhaus (jr. Morganville, NJ/Marlboro) pitched six innings and fanned three batters. Right-hander Andrew Cartier (sr. Estell Manor, NJ/Buena Reg.) suffered the loss, throwing one inning and striking out two.
 
The Brown and Gold took a 1-0 lead in the first when Harrold hit a single and plated Kokos. The score was evened at one in the second when Quintal doubled to right center and brought in Warren.
 
Southern Maine pulled ahead, 3-1 in the fifth. Troiano blasted a triple and scored Dexter. At the next at-bat, Olszak scored Troiano with a single through the right side.
 
The Profs battled back and tied the game at three in the same inning. Harrold sent a single through the left side and scored catcher Jared Marks (so. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield). Left fielder Michael Manganella (so. West Milford, NJ/Don Bosco Prep) knocked in the next run on a sacrifice bunt and Schooley came home.
 
Rowan added four runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 7-3 lead. After right fielder Jason Bobiak (fr. Westville, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) scored off a Huskies' error, Kokos slammed a two-RBI double to right center. Harrold brought in the final run when he doubled to right center and scored Kokos.  Southern Maine came back in the final two innings scoring six runs for the win.
 
The baseball team faces Endicott College on Thursday, March 21 at 11 a.m.
