Concordia Baseball Tops Rowan, 2-0

AUBURNDALE, FL – The Rowan University baseball team fell short to Concordia University (TX), 2-0 in its third game of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational on Sunday. 
 
The Tornados are 16-3 on the year, while the Profs have a 3-2 record. 
 
Designated hitter Jacob Gwynne (jr. Friendswood, TX/Friendswood) led Concordia with three hits, one run batted in (RBI) and one run. Second baseman Casen Novak (jr. Flatonia, TX/Flatonia) produced one hit and one run. Third baseman Reed Carlton (sr. Austin, TX/St. Michael's Catholic) chipped in with one hit and one RBI. Righty Matthew Williams (jr. Austin, TX/Hyde Park) earned the win pitching a complete game, allowing four hits and striking out eight. 
 
Left fielder Dan Shane (sr. Perkasie, PA/Pennridge) contributed two hits for Rowan. Center fielder Matt Woods (sr. Berlin, NJ/Eastern Reg.) and catcher Steven Hewa (sr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) added one hit apiece. Right-hander Danny Serreino (sr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Liberty) tossed a full-game and struck out 14 batters.
 
It was a pitching duel between both sides for the entire game. Serreino started hot fanning eight batters in the first three innings. Concordia took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Carlton grounded out, but scored Gwynne. Rowan attempted to answer in the fifth when right fielder Eric Schorr (jr. Audubon, NJ/Audubon) got on base with a walk then advanced to second on an error. The next two batters got out leaving the Profs scoreless. 
 
The Tornados scored another run in the eighth when Gwynne singled to right field and scored Novak. 
 
The Brown and Gold will face the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on Monday, March 18 at 3 p.m.
