Women's Basketball Falls To Kean, 77-71 In NJAC Semifinal Overtime Game

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's basketball team fell to Kean University in overtime, 77-71 in the semifinals of the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship Tournament (NJAC) on Thursday. 
 
The Profs end their season with a 15-11 record. The Cougars (14-13) advance to the championship game and travel to the fourth seed Rutgers-Newark on Saturday, Feb. 23. The Scarlet Raiders defeated The College of New Jersey in the other semifinal contest, 52-45.
 
Guard Shannon McCoy (fr. Barnegat, NJ/Barnegat) led Kean with 24 points and six rebounds. Guard Payce Lange (jr. Tewksbury, NJ/Voorhees) followed with 19 points and Guard Casey Filiault (so. Ocean Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) had 13. Forward Cindy Foresta (jr. Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) added a double-double on 11 points and 11 rebounds. 
 
For Rowan, guard Dominique Peters (jr. Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence) scored a career-high 30 points. She also added five boards and four blocks. Guard Kennedy Brown (fr. Newark, DE/The Tatnall School) produced 10 points, while guards Olivia Rulon (sr. Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) and Alexis Kriley (so. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) chipped in eight apiece. 
 
The score was tied at 61 heading into the overtime period. The Cougars took an early 70-61 advantage after a three by Filiault (4:51) and a layup from McCoy (3:38). Foresta added the final four points during the spurt with a layup (3:00) and two free throws at 2:28. Rowan battled back and cut the deficit to two (70-68) with 56 seconds remaining. Peters made three jumpers and forward Jenna Hoffner (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) converted a free throw. The Cougars outscored the Profs 7-3 in the final minute of play and held on for the victory. 
 
The score was deadlocked at 47 entering the fourth quarter. Rowan pulled ahead by five (52-47) when Rulon sunk a three (9:00) and Brown made two free throws at 8:34. The Cougars took a 58-52 lead after a 11-0 run with 6:18 remaining. McCoy scored six points, Filiault had three and Foresta added two. The Profs cut the margin to three (60-57) when Brown hit a layup with 2:20 left. The Brown and Gold tied the score at 61 after Kriley and Peters each made a layup and forced overtime.
