STATEN ISLAND, NY – The Rowan University men's indoor track & field team claimed first place at the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championships on Monday.
The Profs totaled 166 points and earned their fifth straight conference title. The meet was held at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, NY.
Justin Bishop (so. Somers Point, NJ/Mainland Reg.) and
Chris Mesiano (sr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) took the top two spots in the 400 meters. Bishop was first (49.52) and Mesiano finished second (49.97).
Daniel "Fitch" Henry (sr. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) placed first in the 3000 meters with a time of 8:43.09.
Dylan Tyrrell (jr. Ocean, NJ/St. Joseph's Metuchen) followed in second with a season best time of 8:49.38.
Earnest Daniel (so. Woolwich, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) won the high jump, clearing 6' 6" (1.98 m).
Airrion Scott (fr. Trenton, NJ/Ewing) claimed third (6' 2", 1.88 m) and
Matt Rizzi (so. Watchung, NJ/Watchung Hills Reg.) was sixth (6' 0", 1.83 m).
Matt Russo (jr. Westfield, NJ/Westfield) was victorious in the 5000 meters, crossing the finish line in 15:18.24.
Jason Muermann (so. Pitman, NJ/Pitman) and
Connor McBride (fr. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) placed sixth (16:05.31) and eighth (16:13.51) respectively.
The 4x200 meter relay team consisting of
Tyler Garland (so. Glassboro, NJ/Deptford Twp.),
Shai Mumford (sr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford),
Dayquan Murray (fr. Atco, NJ/Hammonton) and
Spencer Jarrett (fr. Salem, NJ/Salem) finished first and broke the school and NJAC record in 1:27.69. The previous Rowan and NJAC mark was 1:28.27. Garland also placed second (8.25) in the 60 meter hurdles, while
John Nguyen (so. Absecon, NJ/Absegami) took third (8.45). Both were season best times.
Julian Pratt (jr. Camden, NJ/Camden) earned second in the 60 meter dash and broke the school record (6.95), crossing the finish line in 6.93. Murray and Mumford claimed seventh (7.13) and eighth (7.18) respectively.
In the long jump,
John Owens (fr. Newnan, GA/West Windsor-Plainsboro N. (NJ)) claimed second with a distance of 22' 3.75"(6.80 m).
Frankie Richard (so. Allendale, NJ/Northern Highlands Reg.) took fourth (22' 1.75", 6.75 m) and
Rakim Coyle (fr. Wildwood, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) was fifth (22' 1.50", 6.74 m).
In the 4x800 meter relay,
Josh Munoz (fr. Closter, NJ/Northern Valley Reg. at Demarest),
Mitch Baron (so. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough),
Esteban Delgado (fr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) and
Liam Cunningham (so. West Orange, NJ/West Orange) finished second in a time of 8:05.04.
Kevin Lauer (fr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) came in fourth (4:19.72) in the mile run and
Jeff Stewart (fr. Jackson, NJ/Jackson Mem.) claimed seventh (4:20.06).
Jarrett, Mumford and Garland all competed in the 200 meters and placed fourth (22.31), sixth (22.40) and seventh (22.78) respectively.
Munoz competed in the 800 meters and took fifth (1:59.55), while Delgado was seventh (1:59.74).
Vincent Delle (so. Williamstown, NJ/Old Bridge) finished fifth in the 500 meters in 1:07.36. The distance medley relay of
Korey Greene (fr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City),
Kush Patel (fr. Edison, NJ/J.P. Stevens),
Braheem Whitfield (fr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) and Baron placed third with a time of 10:49.47.
The men's indoor track & field team travels to the Armory College Last Chance meet on Friday, Feb. 22 at 3 p.m.
