Men's Basketball Ends Regular Season With 91-77 Win At Kean

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's basketball team ended the regular season with a 91-77 win at Kean University on Wednesday night.  
 
The Profs are 19-6 overall and they finish second (13-5) in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC).  Rowan receives a first round bye in the conference tournament on Saturday, Feb. 16 and will host a semifinal game on Tuesday, Feb. 19.  Kean ends the year with a 7-18 record and a 5-13 NJAC mark. 
 
Guard Ryan Legler (so. Stone Harbor, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) scored a career-high 22 points, which included six three-pointers for Rowan.  Guard/forward Ramon Wright (sr. Newark, NJ/Irvington) contributed with 18 points, four rebounds and five steals.  Guards DaRon Curry (sr. Deptford, NJ/Phelps School (PA)) and Nick DePersia (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) each totaled 11 points. 
 
DePersia had three threes and broke the school record for career three-pointers with 257.  The old mark was 255 by Matt Byrnes (2004-08).  He also totaled seven boards.  Forward Teirique Robinson (sr. Willingboro, NJ/Willingboro) chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds.  Guard Rob DePersia (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Haddonfield Mem.) tied his career-high with 12 assists.
 
For Kean, forward/center Micah Kerr (sr. Neptune, NJ/Neptune) recorded a game-high 34 points and 11 rebounds. Forward/center Marquis Major (fr. Deer Park, NY/Deer Park) collected 10 points while guard Jared Latane (fr. Lawnside, NJ/Haddon Heights) had seven. Guards Jodrell Thompson (sr. Avenel, NJ/Colonia) and guard Jailen Jamison (fr. Bronx, NY/Phelps School) produced six points and six boards apiece.
 
The score was tied four times and there were four lead changes in the first half.  The Profs were ahead by 11 points twice with the last one (37-26) at 3:56 after Nick DePersia hit a three-pointer.  Kean followed with 14 unanswered points to lead 40-37 at the intermission.  Kerr registered nine points in the surge.  He made two foul shots (1:05), which gave the Cougars the lead 38-37 and added two more at the 28 second mark.  Kerr posted 16 points in the opening period.
 
Rowan started the final stanza with six straight points for a three-point advantage (43-40) with 17:22 remaining.  Rob DePersia nailed a three (15:14), which made the score 50-48.  Watson tied the score at 50 with two foul shots and 14:44 on the clock.  Major had a layup and Kean led 52-50 (13:24).  Rob DePersia took back the lead with a free throw (13:19) and a three-pointer (12:48). Legler made back-to-back threes for a seven point advantage (60-53) at 11:13.
 
Rowan had a 12 point lead (67-55) after a three-pointer by Nick DePersia at 10:01. Legler scored a three (8:59) and the score was 70-59.  The closest the Cougars came for the remainder of the game was seven points and the last time was at 5:01 (76-69) after Jamison sank two foul shots. 
 
Center Diante Bah (jr. Mount Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) made three straight baskets to lead 88-71 with 1:39 left.  Legler made his sixth three-pointer of the night (0:53) and Kean guard Myles Owens (so. Tinton Falls, NJ/Monmouth Reg.) had a three to end the game.
