EWING, NJ – TCNJ used a strong second half to come from behind and defeat visiting Rowan, 96-77, in NJAC men's basketball action at Packer Hall.
Travis Jocelyn led TCNJ (3-3; 1-1 NJAC) with a game-high 21 points and Randall Walko added 18. The Lions outscored the Profs by 25 points in the second half as they shot 53 percent from the field, which included a 10-for-20 effort from three-point range.
Jerry Price led Rowan (3-2; 1-1) with 16 points and five assists with
Connor Dickerson scoring 14 points.
Ryan Legler scored a season-high 13 points off the bench while
Austin Kearney tallied 11 points.
With Rowan leading 44-38 at halftime, TCNJ outscored the Profs, 22-12, on 7-for-12 shooting in the first eight minutes of the second half to overtake Rowan and gain a 60-56 lead.
Four straight points by Jocelyn gave the Lions their first double-digit lead of the game, 73-63, with 7:26 to play. Rowan cut its deficit to nine points, 77-68 at 5:27, but Jocelyn quickly scored five points to the give the Lions an 82-69 cushion. The home team outscored Rowan, 14-5, the rest of the way with the final margin being the largest of the game.
Rowan was in control of the first half, leading from the opening tip. An 11-3 run by the Profs late in the half matched their biggest lead of the game, 42-31, with 2:56 to play. Three three-pointers by TCNJ in the final six minutes of the half helped the Lions pull within 44-38 at the break.
Despite shooting 41.5 percent from the field in the opening half, the Profs cooled off in the second and hit just 37.5 percent of their field goal attempts, which included a 1-for-10 effort from behind the arc.
Rowan returns home to host New Jersey City on Saturday, December 7 in a 3 p.m. start at Esby Gym.
