ASHLAND, VA – Seventh-ranked and undefeated Randolph-Macon used an 11-3 run in the final 1:25 to earn a 73-66 win over Rowan in the championship game of the Randolph-Macon Coaches Classic.

Rowan sophomore Connor Dickerson had 15 points on 6-for-9 shooting and was named to the All-Tournament team, as he also had 13 points in the win over Dickinson in the opening round.

Austin Kearney had 14 points and 10 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the year while Jerry Price and Maliq Sanders had 12 points apiece for the Profs (5-6).

The teams traded leads in the second half and after a three-pointer by Dickerson and layup by Kearney put Rowan up 66-63 with 1:46 to play, Randolph-Macon scored five straight to take a 67-63 lead at :55. Leading 69-64, the home team went 6-for-6 from the foul line in the final 20 seconds to secure its 11th win of the season.

The Profs set the tone early, jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the first four minutes and then extended the lead to double digits, 16-6, with over 13 minutes to play. R-M fought back and used a 10-3 run to come within, 19-16, before baskets by Marko Pantovic, Maliq Sanders and Dickerson pushed it back up to 10, 26-16.

Randolph-Macon eventually tied it, 30-30, with 2:50 to play in the half and then took its first lead of the game, 36-35, with :55 remaining in the first half. Kearney's layup put the Profs back in the lead but Josh Talbert hit a three-pointer at :01 to allow the Yellow Jackets to take a 39-36 lead into intermission.

Rowan shot 46.9 percent from the field but was just 14-of-24 from the foul line in the game.

Rowan returns to action in the New Year when it visits Eastern on Saturday, January 4 at 3 p.m. The Profs will play their first home game since December 11 on Wednesday, January 11 when they host William Paterson in an NJAC contest.
