MAHWAH, NJ – Senior defender
Modou Sowe scored the game-winning goal in the 86th minute to lead the Rowan men's soccer team to a 1-0 win over top-seeded Ramapo in the semifinals of the NJAC Championship Tournament and send the Profs to Saturday's conference final.
Rowan, the fourth seed, will travel to #2 Montclair State on Saturday, November 9, for the NJAC Final, in a 7 p.m. start.
Just as it appeared the teams would be headed to overtime,
Matt Fahey took a throw in for the Profs and sent a long ball to Sowe, who headed it into the corner of the net. It was the third goal of the season for the senior co-captain, who had earlier been named to the All-NJAC First Team for the third time.
"This team proves every game how much heart and determination they have. The more the game stacks against us, the more we raise our level," said head coach
Scott Baker. "We have overcome adversity in all of our last three wins. The best is yet to come for this group."
The teams were even throughout the game with Rowan holding a slim 15-14 edge in shots. Goalkeeper
James Weinberg made six saves for the Profs as did Joshua Shaffer of Ramapo (11-2-5).
Rowan is now 11-4-3 on the year and has won the last three matches. The Profs' last NJAC title came in 2003.
