Women's Soccer Advances To NJAC Semifinals After 2-0 Win Over William Paterson

GLASSBORO, NJ – The fourth-seeded Rowan University women's soccer team shut out fifth-seeded William Paterson University, 2-0 in the first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament.

Rowan (10-7-1) will travel to top-seeded The College of New Jersey (14-1-1) for a semifinal game on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m. 

Forward Daria Jones scored both of Rowan's goals to send the Profs to the semifinals. Jones' first goal came in the 27thminute when she knocked in a loose ball after back Casey Lubonski hit the middle of the crossbar. Rowan ended the first half with 16 total shots while William Paterson had none.

In the other first round game, number three Stockton (14-3-3) moved to the semifinals on penalty kicks (5-4) against the sixth seed Rutgers-Camden, as the game was scoreless after regulation and two overtimes.  The second seed Montclair State (12-5-2) hosts Stockton in the semifinals at 7 p.m.
 
The two semifinal winners meet in the NJAC Championship on Friday, Nov. 8 at the higher seed.  The conference champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament.
 
The Pioneers (8-8-2) started the second period strong with three shots on goal in the first 11 minutes but they were denied by goalkeeper Bristol Pizzuto. Forward Corrine Bowe took the first one and midfielder Danielle Dachowski followed with two straight.
 
Jones hit the net for the second time in the 73th minute. Midfielder Aidan Sheehan sent the ball to the middle of the box and Jones chipped the ball over goalie Erica Hickey who came out of the goal.  It was Jones' 12thgoal on the season.
 
Rowan ended the game with 23 shots while William Paterson had five. Pizzuto stopped four shots for the shutout while Hickey collected 11 saves.
