NEW YORK, NY – The Rowan University women's basketball team defeated Hunter College, 94-57 in the championship of the Hunter College Tip-Off Tournament.
The Profs had five players that scored in double figures. Guard
Nicole Mallard led the way with 19 points and nine rebounds. She was named the Most Valuable Player and guard
Grace Marshall was selected to the All-Tournament Team. Forward
Eliana Santana chipped in with 16 points and six boards.
Guard
Savanna Holt scored 16 points off the bench and grabbed eight rebounds. Guard
Kennedy Brown contributed with 15 points and five steals. Center
Ayanna Johnson added 10 points and nine rebounds.
Rowan is undefeated with a 3-0 record and Hunter is 1-2 on the season. In the first round, the Profs had an 88-86 win over Western Connecticut State while Hunter won 76-61 against SUNY Old Westbury.
For the Hawks, guard Janine Conway scored a game-high 24 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Guard Phoebe Valenton collected 11 points and seven rebounds and guard Madison LaSalle had 10 points.
The Profs were ahead 27-12 after the first quarter. The score was tied at eight then Rowan made eight straight points to lead 16-8 at 4:19. Mallard produced five of the eight points. With 2:27 left, the Profs were up by seven points (16-9). Rowan pulled away (27-9) with 11 straight points (0:19). Mallard contributed with five points, Brown followed with four and Holt had two foul shots.
The Profs led by 23 points (50-27) at the break. LaSalle hit a three at 5:29 and Hunter trailed 37-24. Rowan ended the period with a 13-3 run. Johnson and Mallard each had two baskets in the surge. Mallard scored 14 points in the first half and Brown had 12.
After the third quarter, the Profs had a 32 point advantage (74-42). They had a lead of 33 points (69-36) when Holt nailed a three-pointer at 3:33. Rowan outscored Hunter, 20-15 in the final stanza. Guard

Juliette Tobin had a layup (0:55) and a three-pointer (0:16) to end the game.
