Box Score MONTCLAIR, NJ – The Rowan University softball team shut out The College of New Jersey, 4-0 in the final game of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament on Sunday. The conference tournament was held at Montclair State University.
Rowan (33-10-1) forced the second meeting after a 3-2 victory in eight innings earlier in the day against TCNJ (31-8). The Profs receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. It is Rowan's 10
thNJAC title. In the conference tournament, the Lions were the top seed and the Profs were second. The NCAA Championship Tournament bracket will be announced on Monday, May 7 at 1 p.m. on ncaa.com.
Right-hander
Jesse DeDomenico (so. East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) earned her second win on the day. She (19-6) pitched a complete game and only surrendered two hits. Pitcher Sam Platt (sr. Cedar Grove, NJ/Mount Saint Dominic) had the loss (9-5).
At the plate, DeDomenico contributed with three hits (four at bats) and one RBI. Catcher
Christina Guarino (fr. West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) added one hit, one RBI and one run. Shortstop
Carly Anderson (jr. Nutley, NJ/Nutley) hit a double and scored one run.
Right fielder
Morgan Smith (sr. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) and second baseman
Sonia Sharma (fr. Mahwah, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) each chipped in with one hit and one run.
After three scoreless innings, Rowan scored two runs in the fourth. Anderson led off with a double and DeDomenico brought her home with a single to left field. Smith followed with a base hit then went to second on a fielder's choice. Sharma's single advanced Smith to third. Guarino recorded a sacrifice fly, scoring Smith.
The Profs had two more runs in the sixth when Sharma and Guarino both scored on an error. Sharma reached base on a fielder's choice while Guarino had a single up the middle.
