Softball Comes Back For 7-4 Win Over Ramapo In Second Game

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University softball team came back for a 7-4 win over Ramapo College in the second game of a conference doubleheader on Saturday.  The Roadrunners had a 1-0 shutout in the first contest.
 
The Profs are 28-9-1 overall and they finish 12-6 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.  Ramapo has a 21-11 record with a 10-6 conference mark.  The Roadrunners have two games remaining in the conference.
 
In the nightcap, Rowan tied the score with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.  Right fielder Morgan Smith (sr. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) hit a double and third baseman Cassandra Gerard (jr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) followed with a single.  Designated player Kelly Duffy (fr. Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Mem.) drove in Smith with a double to left field.  Catcher Christina Guarino (fr. West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) recorded a two RBI double, scoring Gerard and pinch runner Rebecca Lombardo (fr. New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt). 
 
Ramapo went ahead in the sixth with a RBI double by right fielder Carli Egan (fr. Washington Twp., NJ/Washington Twp.). The Profs scored four runs in the bottom half.  Duffy hit a double to left center and center fielder Kristina Mueller (jr. Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) and pitcher Jesse DeDomenico (so. East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) came home.  Smith crossed the plate on an error and left fielder Nina Rizzo (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) touched home on Guarino's sacrifice fly.  
 
DeDomenico struck out the side in the seventh for the win in relief.  She (15-5) pitched 1.1 innings and did not allow a hit while striking out four.  Smith ended the game with three hits (three at bats), two doubles and two runs.  She broke the school record for career doubles with 58.  The old mark of 57 was held by Stephanie Allocco (1997-2000).  Duffy was two-for-two with two doubles and three RBIs. 
 
For the Roadrunners, designated player/right fielder Christina Brizek (sr. Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock) contributed with a home run and two RBIs.  Catcher Shannon Cox (sr. Rockaway, NJ/Morris Hills) had two hits, one double and one run.  
 
Ramapo scored its winning run in the fifth inning in the opener.  Center fielder Sisi Machinski (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) hit a single up the middle, scoring shortstop Nicole Hernandez (sr. Pompton Plains, NJ/Pequannock).
 
Brizek threw a complete game for the shutout.  She (9-2) only allowed one hit and struck out five batters.  
 
Rowan will host a first round game of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament on Tuesday, May 1 at 4 p.m. with the opponent to be determined. The remainder of the NJAC Tournament will be held on Friday, May 4 through Sunday, May 6 at Montclair State University.
