Softball Comes Back For 6-1 Win Over Kean In Second Game Of Doubleheader

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University softball team came back for a 6-1 win over Kean University in the second game of a conference doubleheader on Sunday.  The Cougars had a 6-3 victory in the opener.
 
The Profs are 26-7-1 overall and 10-4 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.  Kean has a 23-9 record with an 8-6 conference mark.  This week in the NCAA Region Rankings, Rowan was first in the East while Kean was sixth.
 
Right-hander Lauren Shannon (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) had the win on the mound in the nightcap.  She (11-1) scattered seven hits, allowed one earned run and struck out seven batters. Righty Kaitlin Stahlbrand (jr. Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) took the loss (10-4).
 
Shortstop/pitcher Jesse DeDomenico (so. East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) was two-for three with a home run, three RBIs and two runs.  Right fielder Morgan Smith (sr. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) contributed with a double and one RBI.  Center fielder Kristina Mueller (jr. Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) chipped in with one RBI and one run.  Catcher Nicole Paiotti (sr. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) added two hits in three at bats.    
 
For Kean, third baseman Cayleen Rizo (jr. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) totaled three hits (four at bats), two doubles and one RBI.  Left fielder Olivia Zengel (jr. Stockton, NJ/Hunterdon Central Reg.) had one hit and one run.  
 
DeDomenico gave Rowan a 1-0 lead in the first inning with a solo shot over the left field fence.  It was her first home run on the season.  The Profs produced five runs in the fifth.  Mueller walked with the bases loaded and pinch runner Madison Petroski (fr. Sicklerville, NJ/Timber Creek Reg.) scored.  DeDomenico knocked in two runs with a single and Mueller crossed the plate on an error.  Smith brought home DeDomenico with a double to left field.  Kean's run came in the seventh inning.  Rizo drove in Zengel with a double to left field.
 
Jacqueline Riley (jr. South Amboy, NJ/Cardinal McCarrick) had the win on the mound for Kean in the opener.  She (8-5) allowed seven hits and three runs, two earned.  DeDomenico (13-4) suffered the loss in the circle.  She posted a triple, one RBI and one run.
 
Second baseman Julie Raba (fr. Spotswood, NJ/Spotswood) and Zengel each collected two hits and one run.  Rizo and Zengel chipped in with one RBI apiece.  Center fielder Maria Bonfanti (fr. Easton, PA/Easton Area) and shortstop Tatiana Yourstone (so. Edison, NJ/Edison) both had one hit, one RBI and one run.  
 
For the Profs, Smith recorded two hits, which included her 200thcareer hit, one RBI and one run.  Left fielder Rebecca Lombardo (fr. New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) was one-for-two at the plate and scored one run. 
 
Rowan travels to Rutgers-Newark on Tuesday, April 24 for a 3 p.m. conference doubleheader.
