Box Score 2 JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Rowan University softball team won two games, 8-0 and 11-0 at New Jersey City University on Saturday. Both games were only five innings due to the eight-run rule.
The Profs, ranked 21
st, have a 19-6-1 record and they improve to 5-3 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Gothic Knights drop to 4-21 overall and 0-9 in the conference.
Right-hander
Jesse DeDomenico (so. East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) was the winning pitcher in the opener. She (11-3) threw four innings, gave up three hits and struck out seven batters. Rookie
Emily August (fr. Mahwah NJ/Mahwah) was on the mound for the final inning.
Right fielder
Morgan Smith (sr. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) led the way with four hits in four at bats and one home run. It was her sixth homer on the season. Shortstop
Carly Anderson (jr. Nutley, NJ/Nutley) contributed with three hits (three at bats), three RBIs, two doubles and two runs. Pinch hitter
KadyMae Makos (fr. Millville, NJ/Millville) chipped in with a home run and two RBIs. Center fielder
Kristina Mueller (jr. Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) scored two runs.
Rowan scored in every inning. Third baseman
Cassandra Gerard (jr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) produced a sac fly in the first, scoring Anderson. In the second, Anderson drove in Mueller with a base hit. The Profs had a two-RBI double by Anderson in the third and Smith led off the fourth with a solo shot to right field. Gerard came home on a throw. In the fifth, Makos' homer also scored Anderson who reached base with a double.
Righty
Lauren Shannon (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) earned her sixth victory in the nightcap. In four innings, she (6-1) compiled eight strikeouts and only allowed two hits.
Nina Rizzo (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) pitched the last inning.
Makos totaled three RBIs, one double and one run. Mueller recorded an inside the park home run. Anderson registered two hits, one double and two runs. Pinch hitter
Kelly Duffy (fr. Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Mem.) added a double, two RBIs and a run. Second baseman
Sonia Sharma (fr. Mahwah, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) and Smith each had two hits and scored one run. Sharma also drove in a run. Left fielder
Rebecca Lombardo (fr. New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) was two for three at the plate with two runs scored.
The Profs jumped out to a 6-0 lead with four runs in the first inning and two in the second. Five runs in the fifth ended the game early. Duffy doubled to left center and two runs scored. Mueller followed with a home run and Sharma also came home. Makos produced a one-RBI double.
Rowan has a rescheduled doubleheader at home against Kean University on Sunday, April 15 at 1 p.m.
