Box Score 2 MONTCLAIR, NJ – The Rowan University softball team split a doubleheader at Montclair State University on Saturday. The Profs had a 5-0 shutout in the first game while the Red Hawks took the second, 8-2.
It was the first conference twin bill for both teams. Rowan has a 15-4-1 record and Montclair State is 11-5 overall.
Right-hander
Jesse DeDomenico (so. East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) was the winning pitcher in the opener. She (10-1) only gave up three hits and had five strikeouts. It was her fourth shutout on the season. Righty Kiara Ruiz (so. Wharton, NJ/Morris Hills) suffered the loss (5-2).
Second baseman
Sonia Sharma (fr. Mahwah, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) contributed with two hits (four at bats), a double, two RBIs and one run. Shortstop
Carly Anderson (jr. Nutley, NJ/Nutley) recorded a home run. Right fielder
Morgan Smith (sr. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) chipped in with a double and scored one run. Third baseman

Kristina Mueller (jr. Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) registered two hits apiece. Left fielder
Rebecca Lombardo (fr. New Egypt, NJ/Egypt) had one RBI.
The Profs had a 2-0 lead after the fourth inning. Gerard led off with a single. With one out, Sharma doubled to left center, scoring Gerard. Lombardo walked with the bases loaded and Sharma came home. In the fifth, Sharma knocked in Smith with a base hit to center field. Anderson smashed a solo shot to left center in the sixth inning. Christina Guarino (fr. West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) started the seventh with a walk. Pinch runner
Madison Petroski (fr. Sicklerville, NJ/Timber Creek Reg.) took over at first. She advanced to second on a ground and went to third on a single by Mueller. Petroski crossed home plate on an error.
Designated player Valentina Cucci (so. Bronx, NY/The Ursuline School), shortstop Amber Powers (fr. Newton, NJ/Pope John XXIII) and first baseman Sam DiClementi (jr. Washington Twp., NJ/Washington Twp.) all had one hit for the Red Hawks.
In the nightcap, Nicole Majewski (so. South Brunswick, NJ/South Brunswick) went the distance on the mound for the victory. She (4-1) scattered seven hits and allowed two earned runs. Left fielder Victoria Gehring (jr. Hopatcong, NJ/Hopatcong) totaled two hits in three at bats, a double, three RBIs and one run. Catcher Alana Luna (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills), Kaylee Powers (so. Newton, NJ/Pope John XXIII) and Amber Powers each produced two hits, one RBI and one run.
For the Profs, Lombardo produced three hits (three at bats) and one run. Anderson collected two hits and one RBI. DeDomenico had one hit and one RBI. Mueller contributed with one hit and one run.
Rowan scored its two runs in the second inning. Anderson's single up the middle brought Mueller home. Lombardo scored on a base hit by DeDomenico. Montclair State went ahead 4-2 in the bottom of the third. The Red Hawks then had two more runs in the fourth and one in the fifth and sixth innings.
Next, Rowan travels to Stockton University on Tuesday, April 3 for a 3 p.m. conference doubleheader.
