Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, FL – The Rowan University softball team ended its Florida trip with wins in five innings over SUNY Plattsburgh, 9-1 and Utica College, 11-2 on Friday. The Profs (13-3) went 10-2 at the Sunkissed Games and have a seven game win streak.
Right-hander
Jesse DeDomenico (so. East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) picked up her eighth win versus Plattsburgh. She (8-1) only allowed four hits and one unearned run. DeDomenico had four strikeouts. She also contributed with two hits (two at bats), one RBI and three runs.
Pinch hitter
KadyMae Makos (fr. Millville, NJ/Millville) had one hit, two RBIs and one run. Designated player
Christina Guarino (fr. West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) chipped in with two RBIs and shortstop
Carly Anderson (jr. Nutley, NJ/Nutley) had one. Center fielder
Kristina Mueller (jr. Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) and right fielder
Morgan Smith (sr. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) each added one hit, one RBI and one run. Smith's hit was a double.
The Cardinals scored one run in the second inning and the Profs took the lead with five in the bottom half. Makos drove in two runs with a base hit. Mueller followed with a RBI bunt single while Anderson had a sacrifice bunt, scoring Makos. Mueller came home on a Smith's ground out. Rowan added one run in the third and three more in the fourth.
Against Utica, rookie
Kelly Duffy (fr. Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Mem.) earned the win on the mound in her first start. In four innings, she (2-0) scattered three hits and gave up two earned runs. Right-hander
Lauren Shannon (so. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) threw the final inning and only allowed one hit.
Third baseman
Cassandra Gerard (jr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) was three for four with four RBIs, a double, a triple and two runs. Smith scored three runs and recorded her fourth home run. Guarino chipped in with two hits (four at bats), two RBIs and two runs. Center fielder
Rachel Breuninger (jr. Sparta, NJ/Lenape Valley Reg.), catcher
Nicole Paiotti (sr. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) and shortstop
Sonia Sharma (fr. Mahwah, NJ/Immaculate Heart Academy) all produced one RBI apiece.
The Profs led 3-0 after the first inning. Gerard recorded a two RBI triple that scored pinch runner
Gianna Decker (jr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) and Smith. Gerard came home on Guarino's base hit. Utica's two runs came in the third. Rowan was ahead 8-2 after the fourth inning. Gerard knocked in two runs with a double. Smith scored on a sac fly by Paiotti. Guarino reached base on a fielder's choice and Gerard crossed the plate. Breuninger walked with the bases loaded and Guarino scored. The Profs had three more runs in the fifth.
Rowan is scheduled to play Neumann University in its home opener on Wednesday, March 21 at 3 p.m.
