Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, FL – The Rowan University softball team went 1-1 on the third day at the Sunkissed Games on Sunday. The Profs dropped a 5-2 game against Haverford College and they came back to win 12-2 in five innings over Washington University in St. Louis.
Rowan is 7-3 on the season. Right-hander
Jesse DeDomenico (so. East Windsor, NJ/Sussex Central) pitched a complete game for the victory versus Washington. DeDomenico (4-1) only gave up four hits and two earned runs. She struck out six batters. DeDomenico also had three hits in three at bats, three RBIs, a double and one run. Pitcher Maggie Clapp (sr. Portland, OR/Lincoln) (0-2) had the loss.
Right fielder
Morgan Smith (sr. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) totaled two hits (four at bats), a home run, two RBIs and two runs. Shortstop
Carly Anderson (jr. Nutley, NJ/Nutley) was two for three with a double, two RBIs and one run. Pinch hitter
KadyMae Makos (fr. Millville, NJ/Millville) chipped in with two RBIs. Center fielder
Kristina Mueller (jr. Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) and third baseman
Cassandra Gerard (jr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) each scored two runs. Catcher
Christina Guarino (fr. West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) and Mueller had one RBI apiece.
Rowan was ahead 3-2 after the first inning. The Profs totaled eight runs in the third. DeDomenico drove in two runs with a double down the right field line. Guarino then had a RBI single. Makos' single up the middle scored two runs. Mueller and Anderson each had one RBI on sacrifices. Smith recorded a solo shot to right field. The Profs' last run came in the fifth. Mueller crossed the plate on an error with Smith at bat.
Right-hander Temma Levis (so. Bronx, NY/Ethical Culture Fieldston School) was the winning pitcher for Haverford. She went the distance on the mound, scattered 11 hits and allowed two earned runs. Pitcher
Emily August (fr. Mahwah, NJ/Mahwah) suffered the loss in her first start.
For the Fords, first baseman Marybeth Stone (so. Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin) and designated player Emily Gorman (sr. Towanda, PA/Towanda) each had two hits. Stone also scored one run. Center fielder Ashley Sisto (so. Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) contributed with one hit, one RBI and one run.
Mueller and Smith produced two hits and scored one run apiece. Both of Smith's hits were doubles. Gerard added two RBIs while Guarino registered two hits.
Haverford got on the scoreboard with four runs in the top of the first inning. In the bottom half, Gerard recorded a sacrifice fly to right field and Mueller came home. Rowan's second run came in the third. With one out, Smith doubled to center field and she went to second on a single by catcher
Nicole Paiotti (sr. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills). Gerard scored Smith with a sacrifice fly. The Fords' final run was in the seventh inning.
The Profs have a day off before they play Ithaca College on Tuesday, March 13 at 1:30 p.m. and St. Norbert College at 3:45 p.m.
