Box Score 2 KISSIMMEE, FL – The Rowan University softball team shutout Muskingum University, 6-0 then lost to Ohio Northern University, 4-2 at the Sunkissed Games on Saturday.
Right-hander
Jesse DeDomenico (so. East Windsor, NJ/Hightstown) recorded the shutout on the mound against Muskingum. It was the Muskies' first loss on the season (11-1). DeDomenico (3-1) only gave up five hits. Rachel Eberling (jr. Paris, OH/Minerva) was the losing pitcher (4-1).
Right fielder
Morgan Smith (sr. Millsboro, DE/Sussex Central) was three for four at the plate with two RBIs, a home run and two runs scored. First baseman
Mackenzie Short (so. Denton, MD/North Caroline) contributed with two RBIs and a double. Shortstop
Carly Anderson (jr. Nutley, NJ/Nutley) chipped in with two hits, one RBI and one run. Center fielder
Kristina Mueller (jr. Basking Ridge, NJ/Ridge) scored two runs.
For Muskingum, second baseman Karsyn Shaffer (fr. Greenville, OH/Greenville) produced two hits in three at bats. First baseman Melissa Maiorano (sr. Youngstown, OH/Boardman) and Eberling each had one hit.
The Profs got on the scoreboard with three runs in the top of the third inning. With two outs, Mueller walked and stole second. Anderson singled through the left side, scoring Mueller. Smith followed with two-run homer.
In the fifth, Mueller came home on third baseman
Cassandra Gerard's (jr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) sac fly to center field. Short plated Smith and catcher
Nicole Paiotti (sr. Oakland, NJ/Indian Hills) with a double. Rowan recorded a triple play when Muskingum was at bat in bottom of the fifth.
Ohio Northern was ahead 4-0 before Rowan scored its two runs in the bottom of the sixth. Gerard knocked in Anderson and DeDomenico with a double. Anderson had one hit and one run. Designated player
Christina Guarino (fr. West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) registered two hits in two at bats.
Kirsten Lightel (sr. Tallmadge, OH/Tallmadge) was the winning pitcher for the Polar Bears. She (5-1) scattered seven hits and allowed two earned runs. She also recorded a two-run base hit in the third inning. Catcher Gabby Stewart (so. Union, KY/St. Henry) and first baseman Brady Guest (so. Convoy, OH/Crestview) added one hit and one RBI apiece. Third baseman Miranda Huddle (sr. Versailles, OH/Versailles) scored two runs.
Next, Rowan (6-2) plays Haverford College on Sunday, March 11 at 1:30 p.m. and Washington University in St. Louis at 6 p.m.
