Rowan Women's Basketball Tops Ramapo, 59-53

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women's basketball team held on for a 59-53 win over Ramapo College on Saturday. 
 
The Profs are 5-4 overall and 4-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Roadrunners have a 5-4 mark with a 1-4 conference record. 
 
Forward Jazlyn Duverglas (fr. Hammonton, NJ/Cedar Creek) led the way with 10 points on four of five shooting, including two of two from beyond the arc. Five different players scored eight points each, including guard Grace Marshall (fr. Bellmawr, NJ/Haddon Twp.), guard Olivia Rulon (sr. Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic), guard Alexis Kriley (so. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn), guard Kennedy Brown (fr. Newark, DE/The Tatnall School) and forward Jenna Hoffner (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee). Forward Kailyn Sytsma (jr. Northvale, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan) contributed with six points, eight rebounds, five assists and four blocks. 
 
For Ramapo, guard Samantha Rinaldi (jr. Ridgefield Park, NJ/Ridgefield Park)
 had a game-high 12 points and dished five assists. Forward Jenna Harsh (jr. Metuchen, NJ/Bishop Ahr) add eight points and four rebounds, while guard Amber Sagan (so. Great Meadows, NJ/Hackettstown) chipped in with seven points. 
 
Rowan trailed early in the opening quarter as the Roadrunners jumped out to a 6-1 advantage (5:29). The Brown and Gold battled back to take an 11-10 lead (2:24). Marshall sunk a jumper and Sytsma converted a pair of free throws to pull ahead. Hoffner scored six points at the end of the first to give the Profs a 17-12 advantage. 

Each side battled it out in the second stanza trading baskets the entire quarter. Rowan built its largest lead of the quarter, 33-25 after Duverglas nailed a three (4:03). The Roadrunners answered with a three by Sagan to cut the margin to five (33-28) (3:47). Duverglas notched the final basket of the half to give Rowan a 37-30 advantage heading into halftime. 
 
The Brown and Gold started hot in the third scoring on its first two baskets to take a 41-30 advantage (7:35). The Roadrunners notched four straight points off free throws to now trail, 46-40 (1:35). The Profs tallied three points off a free throw (1:18) from guard Samantha Tello (jr. Elmwood Park, NJ/St. Mary's) and a jumper from Duverglas (.43) to lead, 49-40 going into the final frame. 
 
Rowan slipped in the fourth as Ramapo fought back to be behind by two (51-49) (5:43). The Profs responded when Rulon scored back-to-back baskets to take a 55-49 advantage (2:13). The Brown and Gold put the game out of reach when Brown added three points from the free throw line with under 30 seconds remaining to win, 59-53. 
 
Rowan travels to William Paterson University on Wednesday, Dec.12, with the game set to start at 6 p.m.
