Women's Basketball Stumbles To Nationally Ranked Tufts, 78-38

NAPLES, FL – The Rowan University women's basketball team lost to No. 4 Tufts University, 78-38 in the final game of the Naples Shootout on Sunday. 
 
The Jumbos are undefeated with an 11-0 record and the Profs are 7-6 overall. For Tufts, guard Lilly Paro (jr. North Bethesda, MD/Connelly School of the Holy Child) scored 14 points, while guards Jac Knapp (sr. Westfield, NJ/Westfield) and Molly Ryan (fr. Westfield, NJ/Westfield) notched 13 and 10 points respectively. Guard Cailin Harrington (jr. Westwood, MA/Westwood) produced nine points, followed by guard/forwards Emily Briggs (so. Canton, CT/Canton) and Erica DeCandido (jr. North Wales, PA/Gwynedd Mercy Academy) with nine points apiece. 
 
Rowan guard Kennedy Brown (fr. Newark, DE/The Tatnall School) scored a career-high 17 points. Guard Grace Marshall (fr. Bellmawr, NJ/Haddon Twp.) contributed six points and forwards Kailyn Sytsma (jr. Northvale, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan) and Jenna Hoffner (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) each had four. Sytsma also grabbed 10 boards and Hoffner collected seven. 
 
The Profs struggled in the opening quarter as they were held off the scoreboard for the first 10 minutes of play. Tufts racked up 31 points to take a 31-0 lead going into the next frame. The Brown and Gold picked up the pace in the second. The Profs notched five straight off a jumper from Sytsma (8:55) and a three-point basket by guard Juliette Tobin (so. Deptford, NJ/Deptford Twp.) to trail, 31-5 at 8:18. The Brown and Gold battled it out with the Jumbos but still remained behind, 44-12 heading into halftime. 
 
Tufts maintained a steady lead over Rowan in the second half. The Profs fought hard but could not close the large gap and lost, 78-38.  
 
The women's basketball team heads back home to play conference rival Montclair State University on Saturday, Jan. 5 at 1 p.m.
