LOGAN TWP., NJ – Rowan University will host the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Cross Country Atlantic Region Championships on Saturday, Nov. 10. The course is at the Gloucester Country DREAM Park. The women's race is at 11 a.m. followed by the men at noon.
Men's Preview
Geneseo looks to repeat as the Atlantic Region champion after winning its third straight title last year. The Knights are ranked first in the region and eighth in the nation. Geneseo won the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championship for the fifth consecutive year and runners Sean McAneny, Jack Tate and Bradley Farnham were first (28:28.2), second (28:29.0) and third (28:46.9) respectively.
Oneonta came in second at the SUNYAC Championships while Brockport was third. For the Red Dragons, Ethan McDonald finished seventh (29:19.1) followed by Devin Akerley, eighth (29:19.5) and Matt Palmer, ninth (29:23.4). At last year's regional, Oneonta came in 11
thin the team scoring and Akerley was 13
th(25:05.0). The Red Dragons are third in the region and 22
ndin the nation.
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute captured its third consecutive Liberty League title. Rochester Institute of Technology was second while St. Lawrence University was third. For the Engineers, Sean O'Connor was the individual champion (24:49.2) and Grant O'Connor was the runner-up (24:51.3). The Engineers are second in the region and 10
thin the nation. At the Liberty League Championships, St. Lawrence's Dadley Ogetii and Nicholas Vielhauer were third (24:55.1) and fourth (24:59.3) respectively. RIT's Otto Kingstedt had a fifth place finish (25:12.0).
At last year's regional, RPI finished second and RIT was third. Grant O'Connor was the region champion (24:14.0) and Sean O'Connor took eighth place (24:59.6). Kingstedt was sixth overall (24:49.4). RIT and St. Lawrence are ranked fourth and fifth in the region respectively.
In the Atlantic Region Rankings, NYU is sixth followed by Brockport, seventh, The College of New Jersey, eighth, Rowan University, ninth and Ithaca College, 10
th. Rowan's Daniel "Fitch" Henry was the individual winner (26:10.27) and teammate
Cyril Harvey was second (26:13.02) at the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championships. Henry came in 18
th(25:09.0) at the 2017 regional. Ramapo's Matt Tuohy had a sixth place (26:54.15) at the NJAC meet and he was 14
th(25:05.9) at last year's regional.
Women's Preview
Geneseo is looking for its 11
thregional championship. Last year, the Knights won their third straight title. They are ranked first in the region and third in the nation.
This season, Geneseo claimed its eighth straight and 18
thoverall SUNYAC Championship. The Knights had the top five finishers. Elise Ramirez was the individual champion (24:02.8) and Genny Corcoran was the runner-up (24:04.0). Allie Fernandez came in third (24:18.7) while Dana Cebulski and Taylor Rettig were fourth (24:28.4) and fifth (24:31.1) respectively. At the 2017 regional, Ramirez came in second (21:43.4) while Cebulski took eighth (22:15.0) and Fernandez was ninth (22:16.9).
The University of Rochester finished fourth at the University Athletic Association Championships. Rachel Bargabos took fifth with a time of 22:14.1. The Yellowjackets are second in the region and 16
thin the nation. St. Lawrence won the Liberty League Championship. Ashley Walker took first place (22:15.1) while Mary Terhune followed second (22:19.1) and Caroline Driscoll was fifth (22:26.1). At last year's regional, Driscoll finished 16
thin 22:36.9. The Saints are third in the region and 18
thin the nation.
RPI took second place at the Liberty League Championships. Andrea Squeri finished third (22:19.5), Autumn Grim was fourth (22:20.9) and Maggie Bond came in sixth (22:27.8). Squeri came in 20
th(22:43.4) at last year's regional and Bond was 30
th(22:50.6). TCNJ captured the NJAC Championship and Natalie Cooper was the individual champion (22:47.22). She came in sixth (21:57.2) at the 2017 regional. In the Atlantic Region Rankings, RPI is fourth followed by TCNJ fifth.
NCAA Qualifiers
The top two team finishers in each race qualify for the NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday, Nov. 17 at the Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne, WI. Sixteen other at-large bids will be awarded from the nation's eight total regions. The top seven individual finishers from each region not on one of the team qualifiers earn an invitation to the national championships.
