EWING, NJ – The College of New Jersey women's soccer team edged Rowan University, 1-0 in overtime on Saturday night in the final of the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament.
After a hard fought battle between the two teams, it looked like the championship game was going to be decided on penalty kicks. With two minutes left in the second 10-minute overtime, midfielder Taylor Nolan (jr. Sparta, NJ/Sparta) recorded the game-winning goal. Forward/midfielder Nikki Butler (fr. Franklin Lakes, NJ/Ramapo) crossed the ball to forward Randi Smith (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) who hit the crossbar with a header. Nolan then headed the rebound into the net.
The Lions (13-1-1) were the top seed in the conference tournament and the Profs (13-3-2) were seeded second. Rowan will have to wait until Monday, Nov. 5 to see if it receives an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. The live selection show is at on ncaa.com at 1:30 p.m.
Rowan goalie
Shelby Money (sr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) ended the game with six saves. For TCNJ, goalie Nicole DiPasquale (jr. Paramus, NJ/Paramus) stopped four shots.
