READING, PA – The Rowan University women's basketball team fell to Albright College, 66-61 on Saturday.
The Profs are now 2-3 on the season while the Lions move to 3-3.
Guard
Dominique Peters (jr. Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrence) led the way with 16 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Center
Ayanna Johnson (fr. Ewing, NJ/The Pennington School) added 10 points and four boards, while guard
Olivia Rulon (sr. Cape May Court House, NJ/Wildwood Catholic) and guard
Alexis Kriley (so. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) chipped in nine each.
Albright was led by center Zaria Mohamed (jr. Staten Island, NY/Curtis) with 18 points and 10 boards, while guard Hailey Dayton (jr. Reisterstown, MD/St. Timothy's) contributed 11. Guard Alli Marcus (so. Boyertown, PA/Boyertown) and guard Shaunna Bruker (fr. Brick, NJ/Brick Mem.) recorded 10 points apiece.
Rowan started hot taking a 4-0 advantage over the Lions. Guard
Grace Marshall (fr. Bellmawr, NJ/Haddon Twp.) sunk a pair of free throws and Johnson hit a layup. The Brown and Gold continued to roll throughout the first quarter as it built a 14-7 advantage heading into the next frame.
The Profs slipped in the second stanza as the Lions cut the deficit to 14-13 (7:23). Rowan pulled away by four, 18-14 after Kriley and Marshall scored a basket each. Albright took a 23-18 lead after it notched four straight baskets. Mohamed started the run with a layup, followed by a jumper from Dayton. Marcus hit a three and guard Amina Rauf (fr. Bowie, MD/Bowie) converted a layup to end the nine-point swing. The Profs kept the score close but still trailed 29-24 going into the break.
Each side battled it out in the third quarter, but the Lions remained on top after 10 minutes of action. The Profs trailed by one point, 46-45 (1:17) but Albright answered with four straight points to maintain the lead heading into the final frame. Rowan locked down in the fourth and took a 57-56 advantage after Johnson completed a huge three-point play (5:20). The Lions responded with six straight points to post a 62-57 lead (1:19). The Brown and Gold attempted to get back into the game but eventually lost, 66-61.
Rowan travels back to Glassboro for its first home contest on the season where it plays The College of New Jersey on Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 6 p.m.
