PLATTSBURGH, NY – The Rowan University women's basketball team won its final contest of the Cardinal Classic defeating New England College, 89-62 on Saturday.
The Profs move to 1-2 on the season and the Pilgrims fall to 1-3.
Guard
Alexis Kriley (so. Fair Lawn, NJ/Fair Lawn) finished with a game-high 23 points on eight for 11 shooting and seven for eight from the free throw line. Guard
Grace Marshall (fr. Bellmawr, NJ/Haddon Twp.) and guard
Dominique Peters (jr. Lawrenceville, NJ/Lawrenceville) chipped in 15 points apiece.
For New England College, guard Rene Hudson (jr. Gallatin, TN/Gallatin) recorded 20 points, followed by guard Haleigh Martin (jr. Bergenfield, NJ/Bergenfield) with nine points and five rebounds.
The score remained close after the first 10 minutes of action, but it was Rowan who held a 17-15 advantage. Rowan started hot in the second quarter going on a 12-0 run to pull ahead, 34-19. Kriley ignited the streak with a layup, followed by a pair of baskets from Marshall and forward
Jazlyn Duverglas (fr. Hammonton, NJ/Cedar Creek). Peters kept things going when she hit a three, to then have forward
Jenna Hoffner (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) convert a free throw and Kriley made a layup (5:51). The Pilgrims battled back, but Rowan held a 44-31 lead heading into the break.
The Brown and Gold built a 21 point lead in the third stanza (5:38), when Peters completed a three point play and Hoffner notched a free throw. Rowan ended the third scoring four straight points off a layup from Kriley and two points from the free throw line by guard
Kennedy Brown (fr. Newark DE/The Tatnall School). Guard Asia Jones (fr. Boynton Beach, FL/West Boca) added a point from the free throw line so New England would trail, 68-50 heading into the final quarter. The Brown and Gold outscored the Pilgrims in the fourth 21-12 to win the game, 89-62.
With her outstanding play throughout the tournament Kriley was named to the All-Tournament team.
Rowan heads to Rutgers-Camden for its first conference contest on the season on Tuesday, Nov. 20 at 6 p.m.
